He said that nitrogen will increase his gas mileage. I've never heard of this... what do you all think? Posted by: Mustang5L5 It's somewhat true http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.c...=120996&page=1 Posted by: bullitt5177 Won't really directly increase your mileage, but since nitrogen is an inert gas (isn't bothered by changes in temperature), your tires don't get low in the cold weather, allowing more mileage from being constantly inflated. Posted by: Mustang5L5 Prolongs tire life as well since the small amount of oxygeyn present in air is considered reactive and degrades the rubber Posted by: Aussie XAXB Nitrogen is used in road course cars and some other race cars that are subject to extreme driving conditions. This helps to keep the air pressure in them constant as they heat up in varying track conditions. There is no practical use on the street to justify the cost, in my opinion. Check your tire pressure once in a while like you are supposed to anyways, just like checking your oil level or power steering fluid. Save your money. Also, the last 6 times I bought tires it was because of a lack of tread, not due to a breakdown of the rubber because of the oxygen in the air I inflated them with. Steve Posted by: Rick Sample Thanks guys... I didn't think that their was a real need for it on a daily driven car Ford Mustang Archive Home | General Tech | 5.0 Mustang Tech | 4.6 Mustang Tech | 3.8 Mustang Tech | 2.3 Mustang Tech | Classic Mustang Tech | Appearance and Sound | Virtual Body Shop | Initiation | The Lounge | The Showroom | Site Suggestions | Mustang Talk | 2005 Ford Mustang | Ford Lightning | Racers Bench | For Sale | Wanted To Buy | Northeast | SouthEast | Central | MidWest | West Coast | NEBOC
