Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 44 percent, barometer 29.44 inches, adjusted altitude 2,085 feet, track temperature 99 degrees. Krisher holds a 4-3 edge against Gaines. Both drivers had .00 lights last round, odds are somebody will be very late or red. So much for odds, both had good lights. Krisher made up Gaines' apparent advantage in the first 60 feet and still led at 1,000 feet. Then Gaines nosed ahead at 1,000 feet, just before the race turned ugly. Krisher's car got out of shape on the top end, moving left, then right before making a hard left turn just past the finish line. It barrel-rolled twice before scraping the left wall. The impact of the rollovers broke the fuel system, leaving a trail of fuel behind him as the car rode the wall and stopped. Something ignited the trail of fuel and the broken fuel cell, but the Safety Safari was on the spot quickly to start fighting the fire. Krisher was unconscious when they got to the car, but regained consciousness and got out of the car with assistance. He is reported to be alert, conscious, mobile and responding to commands, but that was a very rough ride and he will be airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis as a precaution. NHRA medical personnel reported that he had only a minor burn to his left elbow and there were no other visible injuries. TV shots from the top end show that the roll cage did its job, retaining its integrity despite the high-speed crash. V. Gaines' incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.009), 330 ft(-0.007), 660ft(-0.004), 1,000ft(0.001). MOV: 0.0612 seconds (approximately 16 feet).
