2004 Redfire...Metallic? Please Help

Hi,

New to the board and I posted this on another site but had no luck with feedback. Hoping someone here will know the answer to these two questions.

1. I was told by a dealer that the 2004 Redfire Clearcoat was NOT metallic but that every other year was. He said the 2004 code was actually G5, whereas the rest of the years are G2. All the research I've done indicates that 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 Redfire were all the same code (G2/M7089). Is this true for 2004, that it is not metallic?

The reason I ask is sometimes I see one go by and it looks beautiful and deep. Then yesterday I stopped at a dealer to look closer at an '04 and it didn't look nearly the same. It was rather flat and uninspiring and was simply listed as Redfire Clearcoat on the sticker. The sun was behind the clouds and it was pretty dusty so I thought maybe this was the reason. Perhaps it is metallic but the flake is just very fine and needs the sun to really show up? This prompted the call to the dealer, but I'm not convinced what he told me is accurate because what I found on line seems to indicate the '04 code is also G2.

2. Is the 2004 Anniversary Crimson Red that much different than the Redfire? Can anyone describe the difference? Is it the same color as what is now called Merlot (FX/M7087)? This is what the same dealer told me.

What it comes down to is this. My father is restoring a '32 Ford and he's looking for a red with some depth, preferably one that doesn't turn towards orange in the direct sunlight. The Redfire is something I've suggested to him but due to what the dealer told me I'm concerned that he may go with the wrong paint if he sees an '04 but orders the '05 paint code thinking they are the same, assuming they are not. Someone else suggested the Crimson Red might be a deeper, more brilliant red but without seeing one in person it is hard to know.

Sorry to be long winded about it. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

All my research shows 2004 redfire as G2 and identical to other years. I don't see why it would be different.

However, your assumption about metallic needing the sun is absolutely correct. Several people here have Redfire and i've had the chance to see them in person. In the sun the metallic flake is more noticable, but when it's overcast or even when the car is slightly dirty it's more dull.

My car is silver metallic and it's the same way. Sunny day after a fresh wash you can just see the metallic flake sparkle. But without the sun it turns into more of a dull silver finish.

Crimson red is a darker red, and not as bright in my opinion. I've seen a few in perso and it looks like merlot wine (prob why they changed the name). The paint code is FX for crimson

Thanks for the reply 5L5. I have no idea why it would be different either. Everything I can find on-line lists G2 for the '04 color. I guess it's just a really fine flake. I wonder if the guy who is going to do the painting could add a larger flake to the paint to bring it out just a bit?

In any event, I contacted two other dealerships and asked the same question. If I get a reply from either one (both said they would look into it) I will post it here.

Thanks for the pictures, 03GT. Your car is beautiful. Of course, you really would have had my admiration if there was a train coming at you in the background.

I talked to the two other dealers I said I had calls in to and neither had ever heard of the notion that the 2004 Redfire was non-metallic. Both said the paint codes were G2/M7089. Since I can't find anything on my own to dispute it (and it makes no sense it wouldn't be metallic for one year), I'll leave it at that.
