Starting Line RPMs?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: primergray

I have a 3.8L 2000 Coupe. CAI, 25% UDP and 2.5 exhaust with FlowMasters

We are getting ready for the night season here in SO Cal.

What RPM should I launch at on Street tires?

I know to stay out of the "bleach box" and that practice makes perfect. I just need a little help so I don't waste alot of time Testing.

Thanks in advance!!

As high as you can without loosing traction. What size tires are you running on the rear?

Hmm...I can't remember what I launched at but we have basically the same car. Guess I'll have to go do a little racing to refresh my memory If I'm not mistaken it was around 3k. I could be wrong though...it's been a while.

I'd say go somewhere...an empty parking lot or something...and do a little practicing on your own to see where you start loosing traction. That's what I did and I made a couple of pretty decent runs without spinning too much my first time at the track.

I know with the Bullitt on street tires, I idled off the line so as to not spin em. However, with a V6, and depending on the weather, you may be able to get traction at higher RPMs. Just head up there and start practicing. Start high, and go lower until you grip, and then you've found it. Sorry to say though, but testing it out on the street won't help either. You'll quickly find that the surface of the track is so drastically different from the street, that it would be a waste of time.

I understand that the track is different than the street. I had never tried to take off like that so I found it beneficial for me to try it on the street first to get used to the feel of it. Sorry, I should have made myself clear on that.

Definately get some practice runs in and remember each track is different and even the same track is different from day to day and depending on the weather.
