It runs good for about 20 miles then acts like it is out of gas but there is plenty of fuel. I changed the filter at the carb. It seems to happen when the car has been running for a while. I don't know if it could be the fuel pump (I have noticed some fuel seeping out of what looks like a breather hole. Then it sits for a while and fires back up. I then thought it might be the fuel tank sending unit filter. Last night I was cruising and the same thing. I was able to get it home by not accelerating too much. When I did it would choke and stall. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks Posted by: Aussie XAXB Sounds like a classic case of vapor lock. What is happening is the fuel bowl is getting too hot from the engine heat and causing the gasoline to boil. This can also happen at the fuel pump. While in this state your engine won't run right again until the fuel bowl cools down enough to allow the gasoline to flow. You may want to make sure that your engine's cooling system is working ok. If there is a problem with the cooling system and the engine is running a little hotter than usual that would account for why the problem has suddenly cropped up, that along with very hot weather. One thing to do is to mount a heat shield between the carb and intake manifold. These are usually some sort of tin plate that helps to deflect engine heat away from the carb.
