Ford Thunderbolt

Was there ever a special version of the Ford Ranger called the "Thunderbolt" like the Lightning? I saw one drive down the road one time and I wasnt sure if it was custom or something Ford actually sold.

Yes, it's real. SLP Engineering modified them for Ford and they were sold at Ford dealers as a production model. Here's a link to an article I found about them.

I remember when they came out that I didn't like them using the name because in the 1960's the Thunderbolt was a 427 factory race car. I understood their logic though because of the spin-off from the Lightning.

Yeah it was mostly appearance mods, but wouldn't be a bad daily driver.

Yes, it was all appearance mods.
My father works for Ford, and he brought home a poster with a red one on it. This was many years ago.

I don't like it. It's pretty much a sticker package, from what i remeber. i believe it was also lowered a couple inches
