Changing Seat Covers - Help!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

This one isn't for me, it's for my son. (The GT is just fine).

My son has an 05 V6 basic model. He got his hands on a complete OEM take-off set of leather seat covers from a GT. (He works at the Ford dealership now, so he gets some pretty good deals. But the dealership doesn't do body or interior work.)

Changing the rear seats from the stock cloth to the leather was a snap. Changing the front seat bottoms was also easy.

Does anyone know the procedure for removing the front seat backs? With the seat back release lever on the rear-top of the seat back, it's just a bit more complicated and neither of us have any experience at this whatsoever.

Rather than risk screwing something up, I called five different auto upholstery shops (including the one the dealership uses). Four refused to do the job for any price. One took an appointment, then cancelled the appointment with the excuse that "factory leather splits and tears when it's removed and reinstalled".

So I'm hoping somebody out there has already been through this and can help the kid out.

Thanks,

OldFart

I was hoping I would get a reply from you Donna, you're always great at finding a location for the information needed.

But in this instance the issue is how to disconnect and remove the rear seat-back lever without breaking something and the info you found, while helpful, doesn't address this fine point.

So I'm still looking and needing the help.

Sincere thanks for your effort though,

OldFart

Try this link. Scroll down to seat removal and see if that helps. These are service manual documents.
