Lowering my vert

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've got a 2003 GT Convertible I want to lower. I'm going with the Eibach pro spring kit, ford motor sport caster camber plates, and new rack & pinion bushings. So, I have two questions. Should I go ahead and change my shocks out? Second, just the lowering kit plus the Ford Racing subframe connectors are going to run $1500.00 installed. Is that a decent price?

$1500 installed is rape for all that.

And yes i'd swap shocks and struts out when doing lowering springs unless you like a rough ride.

All of that stuff is pretty easy to install yourself. Definately get shocks/struts at the same time. The ride on stock shocks/struts with a lowered car is HORRIBLE!!

1500 is WAY TOO MUCH. I installed Steeda sport springs on mine (which are exactly the same as eibach pro) and love the ride. Keep in mind that I feel every crack and pebble in the road. Do yourself a favor and find a better price and change your shocks out. I guarantee that you will love the stance of your car after the springs settle.

Thanks for the input guys/gals! I really do appreciate it. How much of a pain in the arse, is changing out the springs. Do I really need to get a spring compressors to tackle this? The rest of the swap out are just bolt-ons. Is there anything else I should be concerned with or buy to make it easier?

How mechanically inclined are you??

It's not tough, but not something a greenhorn should try.

Even with that said, most shops will typically install springs for $100 or so in labor. They are not difficult and no compressor needed. The rears are a joke to do.

I'm going to do it myself. I just found a link on another forum site that detailed it. I'm mechanically inclined enough to do the job. I was hestitant after hearing about spring really injuring people. I'll save $1000.oo, take my time, and put the $1000.00 towards my intake and throttle body!

We used a how-to to do mine. Nothing to it. Just make sure you follow the instructions and put everything back in the right place, including the pig tails on the springs when you re-install them.

If you do have to use a spring compressor...you can rent one at Autozone or Advanced Auto free. They'll make you put down a deposit but they'll give it back to you when you return the compressor. We had to use one on the front.

Let us know if you run into any problems

I just ordered the Eibach Pro kit, Ford Motor Sport caster/camber plates, and energy off set rack and pinion bushings. I havent' decided on the shocks. Anyone have any ideas?

I went with the Tokico HP shocks/struts. Had them on for almost 2 months, no problems and a MUCH better ride than being lowered on stock shocks/struts. They handle great too. Got them on eBay for around $275 shipped.

Also, don't forget that when you finish installing all of this stuff you'll definately need an alignment.

Koni or hotchkis shock and struts
