Wheel cleaner?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've got some really stubborn nasty brake dust on one of my wheels. I know, I know, I have to stop stopping so much!
Anybody have a wheel cleaning secret recipe?

I use simple green on my wheels.

I just did the backsides of the wheels yesterday. Did a great job

Mike-
I've already used SG with a couple diff nylon brushes and a terry towel, too.
This stuff is really bad.

I cleaned the inside of my wheels a few weekends ago, the 1st time in about 5 years! I used kerosene and the brake dust melted off! Looks like new!

WHat type of material are the wheels made of?

Tony, they're Ford '03 Cobras.
How did you apply the kerosene, Rick?
Some of the brake dust I want to remove is on the finish, as well as the backside/inside.

Just a spray bottle. Then I used a soft tire cleaning brush to the backside/inside of the rim. Next I sprayed with water and dryed with a microfiber towl. That kerosene worked very well. Like I said, my wheels have not been cleaned since I put them on more than 5 years ago. They had brake dust and little hard rocks/dust particles stuck to the rims good. The Kerosene melted the brake dust off, I had to scrub a little harder to get the particles to come off. Kerosene won't hurt the rim, paint, or anything

BRASO

Pretty sure you can get it in the states too. Like Home Hardware or Home Depot or some place like that.

Trust me this shit will clean the black off that dirty old guys tooth.

All my life I always muscled it with chrome cleaner and elbow grease. Last year I bought a spray bottle of chrome rim cleaner that has some kind of acid in it and waited 15 seconds before rinsing it off and it just impressed the heck out of me. With the exception of a couple exceptionally nasty spots it cleaned them right off. I still go over them with polish and a rag to get rid of the streaks and for the perfect shine, but otherwise it really ate up the brake dust.

Adams Metal polish number 2!!!!

Use Fltiz, you can get it on ebay and it works GREAT. Great for taking the yellowing off headlamps, shining up the stock stainless tips, and awesome on wheels.

Any luck on the project? What all did you use?

I used the Brasso and also some body shop 3M metal polish but couldnt get 100% results. I'm a little nervous about using kerosene, but maybe I'll give it a try.

kerosene won't hurt paint or the wheels and it got my wheels nearly 100% clean. Their may of been a spot or two that wouldn't come up, that's understandable since my wheels haven't been cleaned in 5+ years.

i used the meguiars wheel brightener put it in a spray bottle it melted off all the brake dust and grim. i dont drive my car much but my dad he drives about 50-60 miles a day to work used it on his and they looked like new wheel after i was done
