I am new to the Mustang project... i can use all the help i can get to get my project going. here is the story about this car--- came factory equiped with 3.8 with Automatic transmission setup. I am looking to put the 4.6 GT engine or the GT Cobra with 5 Speed tranny. i have been told that '99 and new engine of GT 4.6 is a best way to go or the Cobra. any way any help would be great and what do i need to get the whole swap? thanks Posted by: Mustang5L5 Doner car would be the best. You'll need engine, k-member, transmission, engine wiring, computer and all engine related accessories as well as swap the brake system over to a hydroboosted setup from a V8 car. Posted by: NewkidonDblock Oh cool....Thanks Mustang5L5... for the information. you meant the crossmember for the tranny? what about the wiring inside the car..beside the engine wiring? Also someone has mention to me that the AT shifter hole is not large enough for the manual tranny shifter....is that true? NewkidOnDblock Posted by: Mustang5L5 Yes crossmember for the tranny AND the crossmember for the engine. The V6 and V8 have different crossmembers for everything engine and tranny. Wiring in car may stay but you may need to do some splicing of the engine harness to the body harness. The AT hole is fine. people do auto to manual swaps all the time. Tin snips are your friend. check out this site. www.modularfox.com It's mainly 4.6L into Fox Mustangs but the 94+ V6 retains a few Fox-items such as the k-member and transmission so it's a similar swap. You'll get better help on your swap there as there are a few guys doing exactly what you are. Posted by: NewkidonDblock sounds like i need to swap almost everything... Since the 2000 V6 produce 190 HP.......would it be more practical and what about the wiring connection from 1996 body--- to the 2000 V6 engine harnesses , Do i have to modify any connections? thanks Ford Mustang Archive Home | General Tech | 5.0 Mustang Tech | 4.6 Mustang Tech | 3.8 Mustang Tech | 2.3 Mustang Tech | Classic Mustang Tech | Appearance and Sound | Virtual Body Shop | Initiation | The Lounge | The Showroom | Site Suggestions | Mustang Talk | 2005 Ford Mustang | Ford Lightning | Racers Bench | For Sale | Wanted To Buy | Northeast | SouthEast | Central | MidWest | West Coast | NEBOC
