Problem is GM has their head so far up their #$% I had to buy a Ford. So it's possible I may be converted. I just Purchased an 05 GT Coupe Mineral Grey with 3000 Original miles. Previous owner put Flowmaster back half exhaust and a K&N FIPK intake on it. The dash says I am averaging 13.2 MPG. I know these cars were not built for mileage but with today's gas prices I think we all want to get the most out of what we have. I have been reading about having it profesionally "tuned". Also Diablo and Xcalibrator tuning controls. Is this something I can do myself by purchasing one of these or should I look for someone else to do it? If so how do you suggest finding a qualified person to perform this? I live it St. Paul Minnesota. Posted by: Mac Welcome to the world of Mustang! I am using the Diablo Sport tuner with the C&L CAI. With everything stock, I was getting 24-25 MPG on the interstate at 70-72 mph. Can't see why you are getting only 13.2? Lots of town driving with your foot into it? I did take mine in and have it dyno-tuned for max ecomomy and being able to run on 87 octane. Gained 1.5-2 mpg and a bunch of low down power, 50hp at 2800rpm. Yes, these tuners are easy to use with the pre-loaded programs in them, just plug into the OBII port and follow the instructions. I do plan on being up your way sometime soon to see some guy I met at another site who has a DOHC 4.6 in a Ranger run at a local strip. Mac Posted by: Camaroguy Local shop hasn't done any 4.6 litre mustangs. They don't know much about the Diablo predator, but they have a chassis dyno and want to learn more about them so they can gain more business through mustang owners. Thinking about using the diablo predator and setting it myself. What can this shop do to adjust things based on the dyno readings? they said they are curious to see what the air to fuel ratio is. Complete dual flowmaster kit with NO H or X pipe. If your going to be in the area soon and want to hook up let me know. My other cars are a 68RS/SS Camaro 496CID BB (601 H.P at the crank) and a 71 Chevelle. Sorry, they are both chevy and both needing a lot of work. What exactly do you reccomend for me to start with to get the GT up to snuff? Just the predator? Posted by: OldFart Quote:
1. For starters, you might want to have the rear gears checked. With mileage like that you may have 4.10's instead of the stock 3.55's. I'm running 3.73's and a custom torque tune and I'm getting an average of 17.8 mpg (22.9 highway). 2. I always recommend custom tuning over the handheld programmers. By their nature, the handhelds are a tune for the masses - not your specific set-up. The custom tuner (using someone's software, Sniper, Superchips, etc.) can dial in your timing and air/fuel ratios to perfection for whatever you want, whether it be max horsepower, a broad torque curve or great fuel economy (with better performance to boot). 3. If the local shop doesn't have Mustang specific tuning software, don't hesitate to ask them to call Sniper or Superchips and see if they can work a deal. Better yet, help the shop out and call them yourself and be the facilitator for the shop getting the software. Or keep searching for a shop that does tune 05/06 Mustangs and drive there. Do what you have to do but get a custom tune that's right for your car and driving style. And as a good friend on this site will tell you - do some websurfing, read up and get yourself educated before you make a decision. You'll make fewer mistakes and spend less if you do. Good luck, OldFart Posted by: Donna I have the XCal2 and JLT2 CAI. I bought it as a package deal from Bama Chips. He writes the tunes specific for your mods. I was able to install it and he has sent me email tunes for additional mods. I have been extremely pleased with my set up and get around 16-18 mpg. Welcome!! Glad to have you join us!! Posted by: 06RedfireGT I have the xcal2 and tune from Doug at bamachips with no "cai" they're actually "hai" (hot air intake) and I easily get 21 city 26+ hwy.
