supercharger question

I have a 2006 Mustang GT and I want to put a supercharger on. I was just curious, what is the best supercharger for the $$$ and also, what are some parts I would need to upgrade before doing this?

Also, who has the best deals on parts for the 05/06 Mustangs???

First, it depends on what you want out of the car.

It's my understanding that the screw type superchargers provide more low and mid-range performance than the centrifugal type, but the centrifugal type provides more high-end performance. (And I'm no expert, that's just my limited understanding from what I've read. I could be wrong.)

As to which one, if I was going to install a supercharger, I would go with the Saleen unit just because it's such a clean installation when it's finished. (And based on what I've read, it's also a great performer.)

Regarding other parts, I'll be glad to offer what little knowledge I've gained but you need to be a little more specific. Suspension, bolt-on engine, heads, exhaust...? What are you looking to change?

Also, you need to forget about the best deal. If you're going to go to trouble of changing out a part, you need to get the right part, regardless of the cost (within reason) because the best deal is usually not the right part and you won't be happy with it. (I of all people know this about 05 parts, having tried most of them already. Oh the money I could have saved if I only knew then what I know now.)

the first paragraph is pretty much dead on.
however, as far as Saleen's sc being a good performer, i dunno about that one. Not to mention you are paying a whole lot of extra $$$ just because it says Saleen on it. Saleen's sc only gives 100 hp. at 4-5 psi.

a good sc with a tune usually gives a 40-50% increase in power. so, while a stock 05-07 GT makes 300hp at the flywheel, a sc'ed 05-07 gt should be making 450ish at the flywheel.

if you plan on alot of drag time, then go with the centrifugal type (Paxton, Vortech, Powerdyne, Procharger, etc.) these types take a few rpm to "spool up" and really kick in. so, traction is easier to achieve off the line leaving the tree.

a roots or twin screw type(saleen, roush, kb) are more suited for street use. a whole lot of fun on the streets with instant boost! its what i'd go with.

this one would be my choice...Kenne Bell makes some real nice stuff. with only 8 psi, they make 445 REAR WHEEL HP. thats 45 more hp than saleens kit makes all the way up at the motor!

IMO, twin screw/ roots blowers are the way to go. however, they are usually a bit more expensive

Saleen does it w/4 lbs of boost and a very conservative tune. JDM Engineering, probably the premier tuner on the Saleen is getting more HP than what Saleen produces, which btw, has upped it for the 06 model.

The Saleens are doing that as well with the same amount of boost. One thing you failed to mention was that the base KB comes as a NON intercooled kit running 5 lbs, so once you up the boost to 8 lbs you'll need to buy the intercooler, while the Saleen, at 4 lbs, comes from the factory intercooled. Both are priced about the same. I believe the Roush is the most expensive of the Roots style blowers.

Whichever way you go, don't go over the 450ish rear wheel HP. That seems to be the magic number the powdered rods look for to vacate the block. Meaning 8 lbs is the magic number either way you go.

Myself, I like my Saleen unit.

To answer your question on some parts suggested for upgrade IMHO I would upgrade the electronics to the MAF sensor. and an entire fuel system upgrade including at least 8N steel braided lines and electrical.

I have done these upgrades to my 05 and I feel that the system isn't degraded in any way or form. I would suggest an exhaust system upgrade as well, so that you can move more air now that you will add more in.

As for cost, I wouldn't go inexpensive in any route but deals can be found with some research. Check with a GOOD tuner and see wht they suggest as well. Good Luck and enjoy that HP

First step, read up on supercharging whether it is articles on the internet or from a book on it (there are plenty) so that you understand the whole concept and what is involved. You need to understand just how much boost you can use on your stock engine and why, and then decide if you want to go beyond that and are willing to do what it takes if the stock configuration won't give you what you want.

It's ok to ask questions and get a general background on such an issue, but when it comes to serious performance modifications (and I prefer even with simple mods) to have a complete understanding about what is going on.

Oldfart can offer a lot of insight from his experience, but to "know" about something before you do it you really need to learn it.
