Headers?

Ok, so the next thing I wanna do after my gears go in next week is put headers on. My question is, what is the best setup, for fitment and performance on an 02 GT(2v)AODE w/Bassani x-pipes? I have read that some more than others never fit 100%. One other question, would long tube be best and does that mean I need to change my mid's?(that would kinda s*ck) Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks, Ken.

Ken if you go with LT's you will definetly need to change your mid pipe. I've read in the past that short tubes on a 4.6 aren't really that much of an improvement over the oem manifolds. Go LT's and sell your X pipe for some decent coin.

If you want to get the most horsepower impact for the buck I would recommend the long tubes. I currently have FRPP shorties on my ride and there really wasn't much of an improvement at all.

I am also going to be in the market for LT headers and an h/x-pipe, any brand suggestions?

BBK is what I was thinking. I am sure there are tons of threads about this but what is better x or h pipe? (street)

If I remember correctly, this iswhat has been said on this forum and others about X vs. H pipes

X = more horsepower (slightly, single digit difference)
H = more torque (again slight difference)
X = raspy-er sound -- been compared to a NASCAR engine sound
H = Throat-ier sound like a classic big-block muscle car.

Also - if you're interested -- the May issue of 5.0 Mustangs and Super Fords has an article (pg 80) talking about SLP's "GT Performancepak" which includes among other things, their ceramic-coated longtube headers and Powerflo X-Pipe. The whole kit (headers, cat-back, x-pipe, Diablo Predator, underdrive pullies, 160* thermostat and K&N filter) brought 5.0&SF's mostly stock 02 GT from 219hp/244tq to 253hp/281tq.

so ultimately your decision isn't really a performance decision, its the sound you want?

Yup, thats why I went with the H, cuase it gave me the more traditional muscle mustang sound. X pipes give the car an exotic sound..almost un mustang like if you ask me

Your car is pretty much identical to mine. There is something about that hood scoop in 02 and 03? They are just sharp as heck!

Everybody I have talked to say that if you are going to put headers on to make sure they are long tube.
