400HP/gas mileage/other needed mods?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I was wondering what else you would have to do after adding a powerpak kit (porting and cam) and either a super or turbocharger. Would you have to upgrade trans and rear or are they rated for 350-400HP+?

Also, how badly would this hurt the gas mileage?
the safety and longevity (life) of the engine?

I just want the power for when I want the power, I usually drive slow in my stang and gas mileage and mainly engine life are also very important.

is upgrading the fuel system necessary? one of the charger kits says it comes with a chip and it is not necessary, but is the fuel system big enough to allow for 350-400HP?

I am wanting to know this beforehand because I want to add the $6,000+ in power, but if its going to need thousands more on top of that to do the trans, fuel, rear, etc. then I wont do it.

I made another much larger thread with more questions here...

thanks for any help.

summary...
can 400HP crank be expected for super/turbo and powerpak, along with exhaust, UDP on turbo, roller rockers?

or would I also have to add mass air flow sensor?
bigger fuel injectors?
bigger fuel pump?
bigger fuel lines?
bigger throttle body?
more?

would I also need new trans?
new rear end?

or could they handle ~400HP?

or would I also have to add mass air flow sensor? yes
bigger fuel injectors? yes
bigger fuel pump? mine maxed at 350 rwhp
bigger fuel lines? no
bigger throttle body? i didnt
more? dyno tune is a must

would I also need new trans? depends, i didnt, but i dont take it to the track or use real stickey tires...
new rear end?depends, i didnt, but i dont take it to the track or use real stickey tires...

or could they handle ~400HP? depends on how you drive it

thanks for the reply what power numbers are you running? over 350?

and would you recommend turbo or supercharger? and why?

t-5 take 350-450HP??

Depends on how you drive, but i doubt it. That power level you are going to want a TKO.

An 8.8 could take the HP, but not a 7.5"

I figure there is a reason that Shelby stopped at 350 HP with his Paxton supercharged V-6 Mustang.

Oh, and at this point, gas mileage is a non-consideration.

ok, thanks alot for the posts, i guess its not worth it then. Ill wait til I can get a newer vette. it would cost less and be less hastle just to buy the power already in a car.

i have 352 hp on the dyno with a 7.5" and the stock t5. i have driven ~15k miles with that setup. I do not run real stickey tires that is why i think that i have not had issues.....

if i stuck some drag radials on there i am sure it would break

my gas mialage is ~16mpg

depends on what you want...

turbo is good for more power and will do better on gas milage if you dont keep it spooled all the time. you may have issues with heat *i cant run my ac without it begining to overheat"

a supercharger is much easier to bolt on. it should be a little more reliable since it has been mass produced. you wont make as much power and it will have worse mpg due to the constant drag...

can you hook an intercooler up to a turbo? i would think you could if you can to a supercharger. it just cools the intake air, so im guessing it could be used either way.

and technically you could have both turbocharger and a supercharger?

how much have you put into your car, because I would like to do it, by I don't want to go crazy with the price.

the turbo I saw was $3,000... but then you would most likely need a boost controller, gauges, blowoff valve, maybe professional install, which could make the turbo alone up to $5k+, and you may also need lower compression pistons, custom head gasket (copper or whichever), mass air, fuel injectors, tune, fuel pump.
Once you really start adding it up its way too much in my opinion.

Or do you think you could get a better deal than $3,000 turbo? could you use the supercharger from a supercoupe?

don;t want to bother you all with too many questions... the main one is to kissajew86 as to how much the power mods should cost retail, and what do you think could be done yourself or cheaper than the power pak (all of the porting yourself or cheaper at a machine shop) or found for cheaper (from supercoupe instead of new) and what that price would be compared to all retail and help with installing.

i paid 3k for the turbo and ~ 1.5k for fuel, intercooler, tune, ect...

both turbo and supercharger isnt really neccissary and isnt too common....

yes an intercooler will work on a turbo...

as long as you keep it to 8 psi you shouldnt need any internal engine work, such as pistons, special head gaskets and such

3k is the cheapest i have seen a turbo go for.....

thanks alot for the info
