Flow Matched Injectors

First, let me say that I'm not an expert on fuel injectors by any stretch.

But being more than slightly insane about the way my car runs, and being more than a little suspicious that I had at least one and maybe two weak injectors, I did study up on the subject.

That lead to me discovering an inexpensive way to solve my concerns (and the results proved I was right, I did have a couple of weak injectors).

I hunted around and found that shops are always taking off perfectly good injectors when they install superchargers, because the supercharger needs a larger injector. So, after a few phone calls I was able to locate three complete sets of low milage stock injectors for all of $20.00 per set of 8. Not bad when you consider the cost of one new injector.

I then sent all three sets to Deatsch Werks injector service in Oklahoma. For a very reasonable sum, David Deatsch serviced and flow-matched the injectors to the "Very Best Set", "Next Best Set" and "Final Set". Dave etches a number on each injector and you get a very informative three-page color report with each set of injectors. He's good people and always ready to spend some time answering questions from dummys like me that know squat about injectors. I highly recommend him.

The very best set is flow-matched to 0.1%, which for all intents and purposes is to say they are identical in flow characteristics.

I had the best set installed today and there is a significant difference. On the stock injectors, I had to get the rpms up to around 3,000 for the engine to start purring. Now, it purrs at around 1,400 rpm. And acceleration is considerably better. I haven't timed it but it feels like I knocked a full second off the time it takes for the engine to get from idle to max rpm under wide open throttle.

And, I still have two sets of flow-matched injectors that I'll likely just sell on Ebay, for a lot less than the price mother Ford charges for flow-matched injectors and even the No. 2 set is better flow-matched than what Ford sells as flow-matched. (And I'll still have the set I took off that I'll send to Dave for service and flow-matching and just keep as a spare.)

So are you getting a light flutter at low to mid-range rpm like I was? Well, it can likely be solved by doing the same thing I did.

Good luck,
OldFart
