I took my car to the shop to have a K member and a few other goodies installed about a month ago. When I went to the shop to see how my car was coming along, it was almost done (just needed a tune) so i took it for a ride to see how the K member felt. As soon as I started the car I noticed the WBC gauge wasn't moving. (I always check all of my gauges-it's a good habit). The gauge cycled when the power was turned on but then stuck on 14.7. Now I know you're gonna say that it's supposed to be at 14.7, but the needle would always fluctuate from about 14.5-14.9 before. While I was driving I kept an eye on it and it wouldn't move at all. I mentioned it to my tuner when I returned and he said he would check it out for me. I left to return a few days later to pick up the car. When I went to pick up my car my tuner said he had been in touch with DynoJet trying to figure out what might have happened. They seem to believe that the LSU4 o2 sensor took a crap. I don't understand how it would be working fine one day, and then a few miles later it's dead? The sensor has maybe and I mean maybe 1500 miles on it. Tonight I took off work and I was utilizing the WBC software to see if I could diagnose anything. As far as I can tell everything looks ok. I have a RPM signal, my TPS is calibrated, I know the gauge has power since it cycles when the key is turned on and I can get the warning light to come on. One of the weird things that I took notice to the other night after romping on the car a little bit was that I could just barely make out the needle on the gauge moving ever so slightly back and forth across 14.7. It was almost as if the gauge was trying work, but it was not moving near as much as normal. The next time I went WOT it didn't budge. I haven't been able to replicate this since. The only option I have as of right now is to replace the LSU4 @ a cost of $100 + shipping. I'm trying not to throw $100+ bucks down the drain if I don't have to. The part that really sucks is that I just purchased a laptop while the car was in the shop so when I got it back I would be ready to start datalogging. Now I have the car and laptop but the A/F function of the WBC is no longer working. Any one have any ideas of a few things I might want to check for? Btw, I have already been on DJ's website searching for a troubleshooting guide but the only thing they have are generic FAQs. I thought I had gotten lucky when it appeared that I had found a wire that worked itself loose, but it turns out it was just the seal that goes around the wire in the connector had somehow popped out. I tried jiggling all the wires while running the WBC software but it didn't make a difference. The weird thing is that I have no signal at all. Not just a bad/inconsistent signal, but NO signal. I did notice that if you shake the LSU4 sensor something rattles inside. Is this normal? Another odd thing is that the warning light is coming on @ WOT. Granted, it's coming on to indicate that I am leaner than 12.5 (I plan on setting this down to 12.1 but to start it's at 12.5) when I know that I am not leaner than 12.5. My dyno graph shows an A/F of less than 12.0 the whole way across. Maybe the light is gauge driven and being that the gauge is stuck on 14.7 it is turning it on... Thanks, -Joshua Posted by: OldFart Joshua, That sensor is expected to live in a pretty harsh environment. High temperature, carbon build-up, etc. all will have an effect over time. While I would agree that the sensor should last more than 1,500 miles, it appears yours has not. Do a little web-surfing and see if you can't get a deal on one. I believe the wide-band commander uses the standard Bosch wide band sensor (as does nearly every other wide-band monitoring system)and they have become pretty popular, so there should be a deal out there somewhere. Good luck, OldFart Posted by: BOOSTED98GT Quote:
I have heard that both GM and VW utulize this sensor, hopefully I can find a deal. Thanks for your help! Posted by: OldFart Quote:
Being the particular sort, I contacted the seller and (at their request) sent it back for replacement. It's now been 3 weeks and I'm still waiting for the replacement gauge. They said they had sent the gauge back to Dynojet and were waiting for the replacement to be shipped to them, so they could ship it to me. So if you know someone at Dynojet that can help with a problem, I would appreciated the name and phone number. Thanks, OldFart Posted by: BOOSTED98GT Quote:
I have been communicating with Phil via Email. The following information was gleaned from DynoJet's website. (http://www.widebandcommander.com/) Phone Numbers: Business: 702 399-1423 Toll-Free: 800 992-4993 FAX: 702 399-1431 Email: Sales: sales@widebandcommander.com Tech Support: tech@widebandcommander.com HTH, -Joshua Posted by: BOOSTED98GT My buddy stopped by today and dropped off his LSU4. Problem solved. The kicker is that Phil from DynoJet told me that my sensor was defective since it rattled when shaken. Amazingly enough, his sensor rattles too... DynoJet provides no warranty on the sensor so it looks like I'm out $100. Thanks for everyone's help! Posted by: KartRacer39 Don't take this wrong, but my tuner told me that the Dyno Jet was not a great quality piece so I went with an AEM wide band and have yet to have any probs with it. they are steep in price but well worth the investment. Around 375 bucks, Black/White faces and bulb tint covers are included. Not down grading your Gauges just that I was warned before hand to stay away from Dyno Jet Posted by: OldFart Quote:
So for those who already have other Autometer gauges, you'll be able to get a matching wide band gauge instead of the crappy (and useless) narrow band that Autometer now offers. (You'll also note that Autometer makes the gauge for the Wide Band Commander. I suspect this finally got their attention.) The release is projected for May or June. (So for now, I'm holding off installing a full set of Nexus gauges with a Wide Band Commander in the hope that I'll be able to install all Nexus gauges, instead of a mix.) Nothing worth while is every easy and it seems I can never do anything just once and get it right. OldFart Posted by: BIGJ I like the Nexus line, a bit pricey, but seem to be accurate as hell. Autometer has released the widebands now...........am thinking this full setup myself Ford Mustang Archive Home | General Tech | 5.0 Mustang Tech | 4.6 Mustang Tech | 3.8 Mustang Tech | 2.3 Mustang Tech | Classic Mustang Tech | Appearance and Sound | Virtual Body Shop | Initiation | The Lounge | The Showroom | Site Suggestions | Mustang Talk | 2005 Ford Mustang | Ford Lightning | Racers Bench | For Sale | Wanted To Buy | Northeast | SouthEast | Central | MidWest | West Coast | NEBOC
