Taking a poll on damper set-up

Okay, If cost was not the consideration, and you had to choose between these two damper set-up's, which damper set-up would you install?

1. The Ground Control Koni coil-over, see here:
http://www.ground-control-store.com/...ion.php/II=666

2. The Tein Flex Damper coil-over, see here:
http://www.tein.com/ti/g12.html (Bottom of page)

A. Both have adjustable dampers.
B. Both have height adjustment.
C. The Koni set-up is not coil-over at the rear, but does include adjustable spring perches.
D. The Tein set-up is a coil-over at the rear
E. The Tein set-up has an option of EDFC in cab damper adjustment, see here: http://www.tein.com/edfc.html

Advantages / Disadvantages of each system:
A. Ground Control has a pretty good reputation for getting it right and they do a considerable business selling suspension set-ups for track-only cars.
B. The Koni dampers are rebuildable and the koni name speaks for itself. Not newcomers to the damper business.
C. The Tein set-up is a true coil-over at all 4 corners.
D. The Tein set-up allows for in cab adjustment on the fly.

So what do all of you think?

I like the idea of KISS, Keep it Simple, with the in cabin adjustment, it might just be something else that can break. Then again, it does use 4 coil overs in all 4 corners which sounds more consistent. I'm not the expert though, I read your post to learn about this stuff.

Cheers,
David

I think the first question to be answered is 'what is the intended use'?

For the street , which is generally a set & forget deal, I think they are both overpriced.
Try Tokico http://www.stangsuspension.com/store...?idproduct=794

And a set of springs of your choice and you're under a grand.

If you are doing some racing of some sort then of course the Tein would be the way to go. Or, as you asked, if money was no concern, again, the Tein with the in cab adjustment.

I would get some hiem joints in the rear to free up any binding, either way you go. They will however, transmit some extra NVH, if you care. But they will free up the rear immensly and almost feel like an IRS rear.

Redbullet,

Thanks for taking the time to post the reply. I was beginning to think no one else understood the issue or the goal.

But I need to give you a little background:

1. I'm already running Tokico DSP-12's. While they are darn good for a street car, they just don't get me where I need to be to race road-course in the prepared class.

2. I'm on my third set of rear control arms. (I've tried Metco with Duralin bushings, Steeda and BMR.) I've found that the BMR heim joint set, with the fixed upper and adjustable lower control arms works better than either of the others that use an adjustable upper and fixed lower.

3. I'm on my fourth set of springs and not pleased with them. The third set, custom 450 lbs/in front and 280 lbs/in rear were the best, but the rear were progressive and they settled to the point the tight coils made contact with each other, changing the spring rate and making them unusable.

4. I'm already using a heim joint pan-hard rod, and will be ditching it for a Watts link later this month.

So, after much thought, and even though I would really like to have the in-cab adjustment, I entered an order for the Ground Control set-up yesterday. The bottom line is these guys (Ground Control) race and their set-up is for racing and that's what I intend to do. So after I thought about it for a while, it seemed like a no brainer.

Since the shocks are adjustable, I should be able to get both a reasonably comfortable street setting and a good track setting. Since the system is height adjustable, I'm no longer at the mercy of fixed spring heights and will be able to adjust front/rear height to help correct understeer/oversteer conditions. And they are the only ones with a decent caster/camber adjustment for the 05.

Thanks again for your reply. I'm going to keep it simple. The in-cab adjustment is just a bell and whistle that I don't really need.

So, what are you doing with your old Tokico set????

I don't much like the fact that the BMR joints are exposed. I saw a set at the NMRA races at the BBR booth that had the joint encapsulated to keep dirt out.

I don't road race my car but I don't shy away from turns or vettes and have realized that most of the handling gains I am seeking will come from the rear, hence the Watt's Link and hiem joints.

I plan on running fixed arms with joints in the lower arm front and a joint in the diff. , which I have but not installed.

I had Global West stuff in my Monte, which like you, I changed and changed untill I got the feel I wanted. I'm not going to go to that extreme this time.

If you're interested in getting rid of your Tokico stuff lemme know. I can meet you whenever one weekend.

Thanks for the offer, but my son already has claims on what I take off for his 05 V6.
