Ford Racing Spark Plug Wire Install

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

While replacing my stock spark plug wires with a set of Ford Racing spark plug wires, I noticed 3 of my stock plug wires had some black wire loom (About 6 inches long) on each of them. Is their a reason for this? Should I buy more wire loom to put around 3 of my Ford Racing plug wires?

were the wires touching each other or the manifold or anything else really hot?

if not, then i wouldn't worry about it.

The wires were sort of pinned behind the AC (I think that is what it was). You can see in this photo the ones I'm talking about. On the left (the ones that aren't visable because their tucked away)

Oh yeah, price isn't a problem at all. It would suck to have to cover up the blue spark plug wires with cheap looking wire loom though. The black ones that came from the factory are so warn they aren't reusable. Ford must have put them on for a reason. If the reason isn't that big of a deal, I would prefer to leave them off. If their going to fry out or break, I really don't want to take a chance

it may shorten the life some but i doubt it will harm them quickly....expecially if you are running over the engine instead of behind...

so you are routing the wires over the engine? I have always wanted all the wiring hidden, makes the engine look cleaner....so i never minded the wire loom...

The new wires are going to be routed like ford had the OEM spark plug wires. Here's a photo of where those 3 that had the wire loom are being routed. They all 3 were pinned behind the AC unit and in front of the valve cover.

yeah that is right on the head, that gets pretty hot...not as bad as the manifolds but still fairly warm...i was thinking of on my car, it had wire loom where the wires went behind the intake manifold and it was not visable....i see your delima....

perhaps if you get the sparkwire brackets and mount it sp wont come in contact with any metal it should be ok then....

Knowing how Ford "band-aids" things I would think it could possibly be there to help with a friction problem. Perhaps the wires would be rubbing on something with engine vibration and the plastic wire loom is there to take the abrasion instead of the sparkplug wire.

I would put it back on. If Ford could have saved the 10 cents that it cost them they would have left it off.

They are snugged in their tight. We actually had to use some force to get the old ones out. I think I'll put them back on, I'd hate to see them get torn up either way
