Emergency brake problem

Anyone having problems with emergency brake freezing up over night.

my neon had that problem, but only after sitting for weeks or a month+

After 2 trips to the dealer and no results, I looked at the brake cable and found out that both boots at the calipers were cracked and torn letting water get in. Dealer order parts for me today.

that used to happen in my old 81.

Yeah, you think they would of fixed this problem if they new of previous models with this problem. Oh well

there isn't a problem they need to fix.

it freezes in the winter. ford can't change nature.

you mean actual freezing? i thought he meant he puts the lever down but it still rubs alittle or the brake light comes on...

in my neon the brake light used to come on like it didnt fully release.

True Ford can't change nature but they could make emergency brake cable boots that hold up to the elements. My mustang is only one year old and the boots that seal out water were falling apart. I have lived in Wisconsin most of my life so I know water freezes. Its keeping the water out that is the important part.

Mine freezes. There is a TSB out on this now. The rubber boot over the cable at the caliper rips like tissue paper and water works its way in the cable sheath. You can figure out what happens next. I'm bringing mine in Tuesday.

Thanks for the heads up on the problem. I share the same dealership as Twebster. They have a great parts department (learned that doing my Ranger 4x4 5.0 swap) but the service department has sucked for 20 years.

Thanks for the TSB. I am printing it out because I told the dealer that I had read somewhere that there was a problem with the brake cables freezing and they told me there was no bulletin. I forced them to put the car on the hoist and had to show them the problem.

Bad Ass, Wish I did work at MAC, probably interesting. Just my nickname, too many Daves at the office. Weather was nice yesterday (for Wisconsin) so I drove the GT to work. Forgot how much fun these things are to drive. Got a couple of horn honkings and thumbs up (again).
