.....I give Matt credit for noty backing downPosted by: awwyea I am quite certain there will be at least a handful of drivers being ordered to the oval office next Sunday after the race. Posted by: JustAmerican Yes indeed he is a hypocrite! The one who was all pissy about bump drafting; almost took out a Matt Kenseth in a fit to get even. He said that Matt got him sideways, but if I recall; Matt was about a foot away and took air off of him ( just science ), and he got a lil squirley..He didn't get SIDEWAYS as he said. Posted by: Aussie XAXB "Bump drafting" is a collision. They can use whatever pretty name just like when Ford started "Right-sizing" the company a couple years ago. No matter how pretty the word the deed is still the same. There is no reason to bump the car in front of you. To say it is (and people have given me this to legitamize it) to let the car ahead know to go faster, well driving around a slower car is part of the skill of a professsional driver. If you can't do that then you are not a professional. The driver ahead already knows he needs to go faster..............it's a race!!!! Bumping on a turn is just plain assault if not attempted murder. Back when real men were racing cars bumping was considered the lowest form of a cowardace. If you can't beat someone by racing them then you bump them hoping to cause them to mess up some tires or aerodynamics or even get them a little sideways if you don't have the skill to get past them. Why don't they just trip a guy going in for a lay-up? We could call that "bump blocking". Steve Posted by: 1969Vette haha bump blocking... bump drafting is to make the car in front faster, not to tell him to go faster... the car behind is in the draft and therefore doesnt have to plow through the air, so he is or can go faster... in bump drafting the car behind pushes the car in front so that they can both go faster. this can work very well in the straights, but as you said, it is very wrong to do in turns and usually causes someone to spin. It also usually messes up your aerodynamics if you do it too hard or too much, so thats the downside. if there is 2 rows, inside and outside... and the front 2 cars on the inside are just running and regular drafting... say the front car can only do 192mph. if the front car on the outside can only do that same 192mph while pushing all that air in front, but the guy behind can do 200mph without having to push all that air... the rear car can then push the front car so that they are both doing say 196 instead of 192, then take 1st and 2nd place instead of 2nd and 4th. Posted by: Aussie XAXB If I were a driver and someone were pushing my backend and spun us both out, on a straight even, because his car had a technical difficulty (tire lost traction, tie rod broke, etc.) or got nervous about a car coming towards him from the side and he jerked the wheel, I would still kick his ass after the race for pushing his car into mine and causing me to wreck. Call it "Aero-manuevering", "draft-bonding", or whatever you want. You're not supposed to win by shoving another car, even with good intentions. At that speed any imperfection can cause a 15 car pile-up.
