V6 Magazines ?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I was curious if anyone knows of any magazines dedicated to V6 performance. Preferably Ford V6. I was noticing yesterday that there are more than a few dedicated to Ford V8's, but nothing for the 6 crowd.

If there isnt, is there anyone who has any idea how to START a magazine ?

I don't think that their will ever be a magazine committed only to us guys with the V6's because their really isn't a huge demand for it. Most magazines are geared towards high performance. When the V6ers customzie their cars they do it mostly for appearance while the guys with the V8's do it mostly for performance! Which is why we have a few magazines geared towards V8's and none towards V6's Only way to start a successful magazine is to have $$,$$$,$$$!

Just hit my 4,000th post mark!

Agreed. Starting a magazine is a full-time job. You'd have to constantly be finding new ideas, travelling, find a good publisher, etc., etc. in order for you to not lose money I would think. Nice idea though.

I just think that there is much untapped potential in the 6. Supersix motorsports , for example, has a twin tubo 6 running low 10's high 9's. If more people knew about the potential for a high powered 6, it might generate more of a demand, and more of an aftermarket.. All I have to say about that is look at Buicks Grand Nationals.
There is also Ford's V6 Challenge etc.

Speaking of supersix motorsports, im saving my pennies for the stroked 4.3 crate motor they sell.. 300 naturally aspirated HP, with internals strong enough for multiple power adders. Add to that a supercharger and methanol injection and look out. (I have hopes of some day placing in the V6 Challenge, and dreams of winning)

I know what you mean! It's unfortunate that people don't think outside the box when it comes the the V6! Hopefully in a year or two my V6 will be just as fast or faster than the guys with the GT's. To me having a V6 that can outperform a V8 is priceless!

Just kidding Rick!!

Granted having a v6 that can outrun a gt would be priceless but a v8 will allways be a muscle car where as a v6 isnt really a muscle car in my opinion.

If the V6 has more balls than the V8 I don't see why the V6 can't be a muscle car?

Posted by: Jimbo_Jack

just a v8 has always been the muscle car. all the muscle cars had v8's if im wrong correct me.

Posted by: kissajew86

they are right a v6 mgazine will not take off, despite how much we would like to see it.

My v6 mustang cost 17k, plus all the upgrades it was somewhere around 25k.

you can get a used 03-04 cobra for 20-25k

and it is reliable....

but insurance is more....but for the older generation insurance isnt that bad, and they are the ones with the money to throw around.....so the market works....

depends on what you call a muscle car...

a mustang is a muscle car...it may not have the largest engine in it but it is a muscle car....

okay.... just because something doesnt seem like thered be a lot of interest in it, you'd be surprised at how many people might buy v6 magazines.....
a few weeks ago, went out with some friends from work for a late night / early morning bite to eat at Dennys, and this kid i work with (he's a strange bastard...but cool as hell) busts out a bag with "Bizzar" magazine in it.....
After flipping through it, I've gotta say.... if that magazine can sell, ANYTHING can sell.
Me, being a V8 guy and all, I dont even know if I'd consider any newer cars "muscle cars".... in some ways I think "muscle cars" were a thing of the 60's/70's....not the 80's-present
thats just me though

Posted by: Jimbo_Jack

i agree speed i think the newer cars are more sports cars but if you wanna look at a muscle car i think you would wanna see a huge v8 with alot of power thats what the older guys want to looks i assume.

I agree to some extent. Older cars (60-70's) are true muscle cars but I think the Mustang, no matter what size engine, will always be considered a muscle car just because of it's heritage. Shelby just produced a 350HP V6 mustang that can take on almost any V8: http://www.muscle-mustangs.com/forum...ead.php?t=6207

Just because we have more money doesn't mean we want to part with more money.

Bless you.

That is pretty much the way I have felt all along, but I am reviewing that thought due mostly to the new Mustang. It is the fastest production Mustang ever. That gives it performance rights. It also is very retro to the 68 Mustang, so that gives it muscular build rights as well.

To me the muscle cars of the 60's and 70's usually also had "shoulders" and "haunches" built into them so that they looked muscular. The new Charger (as much as I don't like it being a 4 door) has these shoulders at the side windows at the rear seat like the old muscle cars had. That lends to the muscle car look.

I never thought I would see a car built without the typical sloping aerodynamic facia like we are used to seeing again. I was proven wrong with the new Mustang. It's got a wide, open, air catching grill. That is a throwback to the days of yore.

I don't think a V6 magazine is out of the question. I never would have thought there would be magazines catering to 1.6L Japanese engines. I think as soon as the culture for the Ford V6 is big enough someone is going to capitalize on that and put out a magazine to make money off of the V6 fans. Perhaps Carrol Shelby is going to get the ball rolling with his supercharged V6 Mustang? We will see.

i dont know it might be cool but im gettin a v8 soon ill be converting

I am partial to V8's myself, but I have to respect a V6 that puts out more power than some V8's used to. The current V6 Mustang makes more power than the 94 Cobra. Technology has come a long way.

And i doubt they are but ill believe you because you know everything lol. I just dont want to believe a gt will ever have more power than a cobra.

Where did you get this from? A new V6 only puts out 210 hp. A stock 94 Cobra has 240 hp. Granted, it's not a huge difference, but it's not faster by any means.

Posted by: Aussie XAXB

Well, no, I don't know everything.......just a little about a lot of things. Enough to give the illusion of intelligence.

And evidently my source for that info was wrong. A guy at work who's knowledge I respect mentioned this so I took it at face value. After bullit pointed out the discrepency I looked into it and that info is wrong. Seems whenever I rely on someone else I get burned.

I did find that the current V6 is only 5 HP behind the 94 GT. With there only being a 5 HP difference he was probably thinking it was the same (negligible) and inaccurately thought the Cobra instead of the GT. The 302 in the GT though did put out 285 Ft. lbs. of torque and that is pretty dang good.

Interesting how the conversation went from Magazines to comparing 6's to 8's LOL
What have I created ?!?!?

My view on V6's here.. I like the better MPG. I also like to make people go "Thats a SIX?!?!?!"
I love V8's, Hell thats what I wanted when I got the 6 (affordability issues)
I also like to be different. I know I am not alone in this respect. That was my point in the orriginal post. There are more than a few people who feel the same. Wouldnt it be nice if there were a magazine for these very people.

Well you have to consider that the majority of Import Tunners consider "allmost all" American cars to be Muscle Cars even if they are V6's or V8's.

I'm actually making my own 2-cylinder bolt-on kit,
which is really just making a 4.6 liter V6 for starters...
I'm getting a righteous deal on a 95 with blown HG
and replacing that with the 4.6 V6, my machinist here
builds like 30 performance Ford engines a year and is
ready to do a hot V6, I'll do all the top end, and camming.
It should easily out-do any factory 2V modular 4.6 V8,
then later I may do an even bigger V6 and split port
conversion, those heads really flow some air!
