If they will give you a sticker, 200 bucks is cheaper then a set of cats + install. And you get to keep the cat-less exhaust. It is a emission regulation, it sucks.

haha
usually the owner of the car is the one that has to OFFER the extra $$$ to pass an "illegal" car....
not that i would know *cough 80 dollars to get the firebird a sticker cough*
200 bucks? i dunno...........lol i'd personally shop around unless you've got money flyin' out your ass......

Keep an eye out though. If you get Mr. Prick Cop in Mass., it's $2,500 fine a cat!!! I'm just gonna get some shells and weld them on so they pass visual, and swap out my midpipe every two years.

Is that $200 as in a buy-off??

You need cats to pass inspection in MA period. If you have a friend that runs a station go see them, otherwise see if one of these guys from MA will let you borrow their catted H-pipe to swap on for inspection for a weekend. There are PLENTY of MA people on this board for some strange reason.

haha thanks Mustang5L5 let me borrow urs lol jp

Yeah unfortunately my GT has the stock mid-pipe. I run off-road pipe on my 5.0 and it's a real Pain in the ass to swap back when it's sticker time.

.

It's a pain in the ass on mine too. Simple enough concept, unsrew 8 bolts and switch it out. Last time, I ended up breaking three bolts.

Yeah simple concept my ass. It all depends on how easily those bolts come undone.

Anti-sieze is your friend

Believe me, next time (this spring), I'm doing it right. All new hardware and anti-seize on all the bolts and sensors.

LOL. Did your car come without cats or did you take'em off not knowing about emmissions testing?? MA is known to be one of the stictest states regarding inspections.

Options: Get a catted pipe for inspection.
Find the right inspector and see if they'll let you slide.
Weld in some covers that look like cats for a visual.

Mass is easy comared to NH.In Mass they never put my car on a lift just shoved the sniffer in there. I had an 89 full size Bronco that would not pass with the cats. I did long tubes,no cats and it passed fine.Go figure

Diablosport Tuner cured all my "emissions" problems. I just turned the damn O2 sensors off and cleared the DTC and she passed with flying colors . It did cost almost $400.00 for the tuner but I got my sticker and a nice tune and the chance to reset my speedometer due to the gear change that I made back in 2000 . There are lots of cool tunings you can do with the Diablosport Tuner so I feel it is definitely worth the moola.

Doesn't matter in MA, they'd just fail the car for being too low.

I love emmissionless southern Illinois

Well, Jersey inspection was annoying as hell to get through, first you wait in line for a few hours only to probably fail. Then you come back and wait a few more hours. I was another two-year swapper, until now, just introduced my stock h to a screwdriver( 2 of the cats were clogged, so I made the other 2 even). I have to go through the vermont one sometime soon, have my bottle of isoheet ready, heard it helps pass the sniffer.

Lets take a look at where all these idiotic laws come from California! Okay lets take a look. California has a water problem, they don't have enough of it. Okay so lets pass a law across this great USA that says all toilets must use LESS than 1.6 gallons of water. Now I am the poor plumber who had to start putting them in and would get call after call about toilets backing up, not flushing on the first try but the 3rd ( Older toilets were 3 gallons per flush ) Drain line and septic system failures because 1.6 gallons is not enough water to flush a load down the line. Oh it gets better. California not only does not have enough water but the quality of water is not so good, and we are worried about the lead content in our water because out water mains are made of lead and these mains feed our California homes. Okay here is another Cal brainstorm. We better check no demand that there is no lead in any faucets being manufactured. Now most beautiful faucets are made out of yellow brass or red brass. Guess what... there are trace amounts of lead in brass. We must test this California government says. The test consists of leaving a faucet off for 24 hours and draw a small sample with out letting the water run for even a second before drawing a sample. Naturally trace amounts were found yet no lead was detected if water was allowed to run for 3 seconds. Now all faucets that are made of brass must have ceramic internal workings to protect us from lead and double the cost of the faucet. Now lastly the dreaded smog testing. I live in a town of 22,000 people. We have clean air and water but wait California dosen't have clean air they have smog. Why change our protocal now. Lets shove it to all the USA and make small towns test as the large citys do. They treat the problem country wide instead of isolating those polluted areas and making them test and get their cars and trucks up to snuff. If it sounds like I am comming down hard on California I am. Before my injury I was the plumber who had to deal with California and explain to 88 yr old Mrs Smith why her new toilet plugged up all the time, or why her shower faucet didnt produce enough water for her to wash her hair ( 1.8 gallons per minute ). Thank you for letting me rant. I have been holding that one back for a long time.

Steve Oh and if your car fails remember California is where it all started.
