ok ive got my money ready how much are they and where is the best spot to get them and is anything better than KNN please help me out

Posted by: kissajew86

k&n really dosent do much, save your money and get something worth while....

Posted by: Jimbo_Jack

what is worthwhile for a cool air intake system? i only have about 360$ what should i buy

Posted by: ExBamaGal

Do you have exhaust yet?

Posted by: Jimbo_Jack

no but i think that will be too much i do not have alot of money here so im wondering how much would that be?

Posted by: ExBamaGal

Mine was $375 total. You should ask around about prices. You'll enjoy exhaust a lot more than you would a CAI in my opinion...especially if you're going to pay full price for a CAI

Posted by: Jimbo_Jack

dunno where to ask around at but ill start lookin thanks what should i go with though? and where do i buy exhaust at?

Posted by: Humboldt Stang

I had heard that a new exhaust system would only give me about 6HP, but that a CAI would give me 18-35HP, with 20HP being the usual.

Obviously, a new exhaust would sound nicer, but was I misinformed about the horsepower benefits of either option?

Listen to some of the clips with different setups in the thread below and determine what type of sound you like. It all depends on what you want. I have the Flowmaster 40 series with no mid pipe and stock cats. Once you find out what you like start calling around to local exhaust shops. They should have everything you need there or they should be able to order it. Get a quote and GIT-R-DONE!! lol

The CAI is nice but you can't really tell a huge difference in the HP when you install it so for the price it's kinda a waste unless you've got other performance parts to go with it. I got mine used for $60 so it didn't matter what the difference was for me...mainly for looks. You can get CAI's off of eBay pretty cheap if that's the route you want to go.

Well, I've never actually ran my car on the dyno to really confirm the difference but I'm almost positive you won't get that out of a CAI. I noticed more of a difference when I got my exhaust but that may just be me.

Maybe someone who knows more about this will chime in here to help me

exhaust may give you 5 hp
k&n is only 1 or 2
CAI is like 5
Roller rocers is like 7-10
Cam is like 10-20
porting is 10-50 (depending on setup)
ud pullies is 7
shorty headers is like 3 hp (you loose mucho tq tho)
timing advance through a chip and 92 octane is like 10

these are the basic# i have gotten from most people experiance i have hear on the internet. If you have any questions let me know

Posted by: Jimbo_Jack

and im assuming that horsepower is at the wheels and the 05 mustang does gain greatly with cool air intake they arent lieing to you about that

Posted by: kissajew86

05 gains a lot yes but not 20-30 hp, mabey 10.

a tune makes a huge diffrence in the 05 from what i hear

Guess my next mod ought to be porting or cams. How expensive is it to port?

Posted by: kissajew86

you can spend mucho money on porting, cam is semi cheap...

a good set of heads is $1500, prob bout $800 install at a shop.

a cam+springs are about $400, install same as heads, but if you do it at the same time most shops wont charge extra to do both.

a tune is manditory with cam.....you really need it with the heads too...

Posted by: Wolfey

okay, maybe cams and a tune. Heads will have to wait.

Posted by: kissajew86

i did the cam, it was nice, but like i said tune is really nessisary.....

make sure to get the springs with the cam....

Springs? What are they?

Posted by: Jimbo_Jack

not gettin cams yet i only have enough for a cai and some intereior body mods or enough for exhaust thats it...good news is my g/f loves my car so i can put money into it

Posted by: Rick Sample

I wouldn't really get a K&N Air intake. Just save your money for a set of dual flowmasters. You'll thank me every time you start your car

Posted by: kissajew86

valve springs...they prevent valve float form the higher lift and rpm

Oh okay. So cams, valve springs and a tune it is. Well, maybe in the spring.
