Does anybody know of any tricks or tips to pep up a dual plug 2.3?

ummmm.. turbo it!! lol. no seriously, i just completed a 87 turbocoupe motor swap in my 92. you should try sites for more info on the lil ol 2.3. i personally like Turbofords.org, that is where i hang out most often..and you will be able to find all the info you need to make that 4 banger scream!

Besides putting a turbo on, or turbo motor in, you could try....

Header (off of a Ranger, or aftermarket)
Aftermarket coil(s)
Port and polish (head and intake)
Higher compression pistons
Cold air intake

Pretty much all the usuals with any motor. You could also try a stand-alone fuel management like Megasquirt. You could probably squeeze a pony or two out of the motor with that.

then again you could also put in an esslinger head, raise the compression to 12:1 and run race gas all the time, not to mention set you back a few thousand and you still won't have moer than 250 HP to the wheels... by far the cheapest simplest way to make power out of these motors is to turbo them. you caould always just put a turbo/manifold on your stock block and run about 12 psi without a problem. just swap in a Big VAM and unplug the vacuum line from the MAP sensor, repin the harness at the computer and run a LA3 (manual tranny) or LB3 (auto tranny)
