Gauge bezel

I bought a chrome gauge bezel, and cant figure out how to get the plastic lens off to install it. There are several screws, but i dont know if thats how it comes off or not. How do i get to the inside for the gauges, to put this piece in? Appreciate any help. I've had the dash off 3x and i just dont want to break the lens. It looks to me like the lens is glued on.

Aww come on guys, somebody must know how to get it off without breaking it. How does everyone change their gauges? If i break the plastic lens, does anyone know where to get a replacement one?

Posted by: ExBamaGal

I just replaced my gauges but I didn't have to take that part off to do it. Looked to me like it was glued on though. Wish I could help more but I have no idea how to get it off. Let us know if you find out.

oops sorry i missed this one....

you have to dremel the plastic lens off....very carefully then glue it back on

Posted by: Wolfey

OMG NO!!! Dremel it? Dang. Do you know where i can buy a replacement lens? Mine has scratches on it anyways, so i might not be too picky about getting it off. Anyways, how would i dremel it? Somebody told me they used a heat gun, but it took like forever to get it off.

K, then this looks like a job for my neighbor. He knows how to use a dremel.

when you glue it back together be careful not too use too much glue. the lens will fog

Any luck with this Wolfey?

Posted by: Wolfey

Not yet. Instead of asking my neighbor, i'm going to have a guy do it at this garage i found. He said he knew how to do it. I installed a couple of computer programs on his computers, so he is going to help me out on the installation cost. I might even make him put my CAI on. That should be here tomorrow, and i have the day off, so i might just go down and hound him. lol Hope he isnt too busy, i'm getting impatient on my mods. I WANT THEM DONE NOW!!!!!

Did you replace the whole thing, gauges and everything? Isn't that like a $200 - $400 piece?

Nah, what I got was just an overlay that goes over the stock gauges Let us know how the installation goes for ya! CAI's are easy to install by the way

Posted by: Wolfey

Maybe thats what i should get then, is an overlay. I'm real nervous on removing that plastic piece. OOPS forgot, i'm not gonna do it myself. lol

^^^^ thats what i'm sayin'

Posted by: Wolfey

It wouldn't be a big deal if i had used a dremel before but i haven't. So yeah , i think it is a big deal. Anyways, the guy is putting it on tomorrow for me. I'll let you guys know how hot it is.

take pics...how much is he charging you?
it took about an hour and a half to take out my cluster, modify it, and then reinstall it. and that includes waiting for the paint to dry.
here's a pic...

Man, that looks good badass

Posted by: badass98svt

he he...thanks. its very easy.
oh, and gots ta give props to NAZZ for selling me the svt decal for the tach.

Posted by: Wolfey

Got it done. Looks pretty good, might make another adjustment on it later, seems like its off just a pinch. I'm anal like that though. Anyways, after seeing what you did, with the paint, i'm thinking i like that too. God, i hope i don't decide to change it! Anyways, my mechanic did the bezel and the CAI for guess how much????? FREE!!!!!!! lol Pays to suck up huh. No he did it free cuz i put some computer games and Norton 2005 on both his computers for free. It's looking like, i might just get my exhaust installed for free also. I'm going to build his daughter a computer for X-mas in trade,Maybe. Thurs., i order my exhaust, finally! Thanks everyone for all the help on installation. Oh, and you were right, it wasn't too difficult using the dremel. lol I'll get pics out soon hopefully. Oh, Bama, I have some other ideas on dressing up my engine. You might like them. Soon as i find the items, if i can get them, i'll let you know first hand I'm trying to locate them and having a hard time. I haven't seen or heard anyone doing this , so far. Least not for the V6, you can get these items for V8 and 5.0 though.

Posted by: badass98svt

what items are you looking for?

btw if the piece he installed isn't straight, you better fix it quick or it'll never come off.
lets see some pics of the new cluster

Posted by: Wolfey

SHHHH! Its a secret. lol. When i find them i will tell you. Well err, maybe after i get them and have them installed. Don't want anyone to beat me out or anything.

if the parts are available, i doubt yo'll be the first with them.
i also doubt yo'uu need to have someone install them for you, especially if they are just dress up pieces.

Posted by: Wolfey

Oh, i'm not saying that i'll be the first one to have ever installed them, but maybe the first one out of you few that dont have them yet, from what i can see of your engine bays.
