Please help... :((Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)Posted by: Rhapsodie Ok, Im not a car guy, so I don't know any of the technical terms, but I will do my best to describe what is happening. I am really at a loss, so any help or ideas would be GREATLY appreciated it... When I drive my mustang, after I've been driving it for awhile, (20 mins,) and I stop somewhere, it starts to produce white smoke from underneath the center of the car. It is NOT coming out the tail pipe, (otherwise I heard that could be the gaskets,) but instead the smoke is coming directly from the center of the car. I looked under the car and I noticed that the outside of the tail pipe was smoking white, but I couldnt tell from what. The top of the tail pipe appears to be wet, (I looked at it tonight and it touched it and it looks and feels like oil.) The drive train, (I think that is what the spinning metal rod is that drives the wheels,) is right above this area of the tail pipe, and it is also wet, (which makes sense too me because it needs to be oiled I would think.) In fact, the whole area around this tail pipe appears to be wet. Anyway, thats where the oil appears to be dripping from, but I checked the oil after each trip and there is no real significant oil loss... It worries me because the smoke comes inside the cab, and there is quite a bit of smoke.... Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Any and all response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Sincerely, Andrew Posted by: boss66tcode You likely have an antifreeze leak that is dripping on the exhaust. Look for a leaky hose, or maybe a freezeplug in the block. These usually leak alot of fluid when they go. Good luck, Curt Posted by: FordPro63 I agree that it must be antifreeze. Does it smell sweet when it smokes? If so it is definitely antifreeze. Could be a blown head gasket, cracked block, bad freeze plug of a hose. Good luck!! Posted by: kndgstngmn it sounds like the rear transmission seal is leaking.that spinning metal rod is your drive shaft which goes into the back of the transmission .that is where the seal is. Posted by: foxstang93 I'd say it's a tail shaft seal, if it's in the middle of the car. Look above the exhaust where the fluid is at, and if it's where the drive shaft goes into the back of the transmission, then, the tail shaft seal is bad. What's happening is since that seal is bad, it's leaking transmission fluid onto the exhaust. When the exhaust gets hot, you have the smoke. This exact same thing happened to me because a dealer screwed up the seal on me once. Posted by: Interfire The same problem occured to my brother's F150 2001. It ended up being the transmison seal that goes out to the drive shaft. But rememeber there's two on this type of truck, they work together and lock up, at least thats what the mechanic said. Posted by: fordtech523 Check to see if the transmission fluid is low. You may have a transmission output seal leaking. Quote:
