I'm looking for detailed articles, parts lists, best tranny to use, and suppliers to convert a 4 speed to a 5 speed in my 65 Fastback. Mustang Monthly has printed some " HOW-TO" articles but, never gave inforrmation about speeometer cable or back-up light switch.
Has anyone has completed this conversion ? I prefer not to do any cutting on the floor panel...Thanks

This is the wrong area for this but I will answer it anyway. If you aren't making 500hp the T-5 is the best way to go IMO.You are better off using the T-5 bellhousing as well as converting it to a cable clutch setup. You will not have to cut the floor with the T-5.I cannot speak for other trans conversions. You can use your existing speedo cable and for back up lights it's just a matter of getting the connector that fits on the T-5 and splicing it in to your existing wiring. Go to www.mustangsplus.com .They are the best source IMO for the restomod stuff for the early cars.If you plan on going fuel injected they have info on that too.

Oh I almost forgot. If you have the 289 or a 302 you will have to use a 289 flywheel which is 157 tooth or if you already have a late model 5.0 you just use the existing flywheel. If you have any more questions feel free to PM me as I did this conversion before they ever were making kits.

Mustang and Fords has done several articles on the swap, I'll see if I can find the issue.
I've heard (haven't done this) that going to the clutch cable makes room for power brakes if you want to add them.
I think there is custom crossmember too.
