For those of you that didn't know, I had Kevin's Turbo Turtle for the day yesterday.
This car is sooooooooooo much freakin fun!!!!
I really think I wanna go the Turbo route now.
I took a good look at the Hellion kit and it is a really nice looking set-up with just the right amount of chrome piping for the bling factor.

good luck buddy, your motor won't be long for this world if you go down that road

Why would his motor not last, as long as he doesnt crank up the boost it will be fine.

Posted by: awwyea

Actually, comparing Kev's 2V to Ed's 4V, Ed's motor is already hand built with forged internals. Ed's would likely outlast Kev's motor for that factor alone. Also dependent upon how often it is raced and beat on.

Posted by: TorchRedSVT

Since when were 96-98 4v's forged...that's news to me

last i heard the only difference between those 2v's and 4vs are the heads.....

I think Ed's internals are wimpy like mine.. Hypereuteric Rods and Pistons casted POS cost savings by Ford .. engineered to what was delivered in HP no more no less. Kinda smart for Ford actually..

96-98 Cobras have the Teksid aluminum block. That block will take 1000HP.

I also beleive the crank is forged as well.

Posted by: Dark_Cobra

Of course the crank is a 500hp cobra crank.. and teksid block is good to push around 600 at the upper limit. (not 1000)... then of course the other aluminum block that came out is rated for even less.. It may be the block in my car actually..

But internal rods pistons .. gotta change em

Thanks for clarification mike, that makes sense now!! I knew that motor had a weak spot.

First off I am sure 8 or 10 psi would be fine...I just don't know how long I would trust it. Given how much Ed drives I am sure it would be fine..but its that occasional trip to the track that could be an issue.

secondly, its Ed...he's alllllll talk

Who said hes gonna put a turbo on and crank the thing up to 20 psi, the Hellion kits are meant for stock engines, as long as he keeps it aournd 10 psi he will be fine. Alot of people in GT's are pushing well over 400rwhp and 500rwtq with these kits and still going strong. Not to say that there engines will last forever, but as long as Ed gets a good tune and keeps it at a conservative boost level he will be fine and make plenty of power. No different than slapping a blower on it.

I've known a few people over the years with stock rated centrifugal superchargers on a stock block..blow rods out the side ..

Someone in the "UNtouchables did this within the last 2 years by missing a shift on the highway one day with his P1SC... All ya gotta do is over rev em and throw a load onto the engine at the wrong moment and it could be done for..

That's why I'll never do it without a forged platform to start with.

I'd just find a Mark 8 motor, but it for $200, use the block (teksid block) and build up a nasty motor from scratch.

Ford Racing 4V heads, after market camshaft, forged crank rods and pistons, Slap a used Cobra eaton on it with a little port job and call it a day

(i know i'm missing a few parts)

If i ever run across a good deal on a Mark 8 motor..i'm buying it.

Can't slap an Eaton on it that easily... The older blocks like my 01 and Ed's have Knock sensors and the cost of correcting issues and getting everything together and relocating the alternator will run you the price of a good aftermarket system and it will still all need to be modified to work with the computer...

It's Not that simple when working with the 4V Cobra's .. look in SVTPerformance for more info under New Edge Cobra Discussion... Been in there for years, read it all.

Actually the 05+ engine blocks are stronger than the Teksid, and those can be had brand new for 500

The weak spot on my car is the powder cast rods. They take powdered metal and cast it under high pressure

Are the AL?

Kevin's turbo sounded great also......thanks for the start-up/demo ED. I'm sure you enjoyed listening to that that thing during your ride to & fro!! I thought possibly some exhaust tones would have been lost with the turbo....but not the case.

Looks the same as most older mustang internals.. That's the "Hypereuteric" process I believe.. It's in the older Cobra's as well before they threw the eaton on em..
