"Real Name" listing

Hi Tony, Rick

I just signed up on another forum (not a Mustang one, don't worry!) and one of the "required" elements of the profile is a "real first name" field.
They do it to make everyone's conversations a bit more friendly -- you can call people by name if you want, rather than by some long obscure nickname.

I think it's a great idea. We should do this. They have it set up so your name gets displayed under your avatar. (They're using vBulletin also)

Out of curiosity, is that mandatory or voluntary???

Posted by: badass98svt

I think everyone should just put their name at the top of their sig.
I do that on another site. In fact, I'll do it to mine right now.

Posted by: Mustang5L5

I usually do it on most of the forums I am on, but not here because I know most of the people here.

But i do think it should be optional if done

Posted by: ToplessPony94

Being still relatively new here, I'm in favor of this because it helps to get to know people. But, yes, it should be optional.

Bruce

Doing it to my sig now. I like that idea.

It was mandatory. But, of course, no one's going to know if it's really your name.

If you don't put in your real name, it defeats the whole purpose. I like the idea of knowing peoples names. Does it only show when a member logs in?

Shows under the avatar on all of your posts.

Considering i have two bad knees...not a problem I do it automatically some days

Posted by: badass98svt

Mike, the reason I didn't have my name in my sig was for the same reason. I know 90% of the people on the site. But it would be nice if everyone knew everyone, kinda like Cheers!
Sincerely,
Eric Cartman

good idea...done

I went to the LMMC car show last year...all those guys had shirts on that had thier screen names on the forum...i thought that was pretty good idea.

Posted by: badass98svt

C'mon Mike you slacker, get your name up their

Posted by: MORPOWR06

I'm new to this site and don't know that many people yet so I think having your real first name is a good way for everybody to get to know other people.

Posted by: slowpony

I agree that its a good idea, did it today...

I could put in a "Real Name" field and make it optional. I'll see what it looks like with "Withheld" in place or I could probably make the entire "RealName" field disappear if they don't enter their real name.

Posted by: Capriman86

i always put it in my sig.

Posted by: Dark_Cobra

It's Always been in my sig.. At least the nickname of DC that is, which I've grown to like over the years.
