Pre 96 Mass Emissions

Hey guys, just to let you know, as of today, there will be no more dyno testing for state inspections (unless you're currently rejected for emissions). Rumor is however, that soon they're going to implement dyno testing again, but at less locations as to save money. So, that being said, if you' need a sticker and are worried about passing emissions, get the sticker ASAP, as currently you are exempt!!

?????? I heard this wasnt taking place until 10/1/08

Did the state tell all the shops to get rid of those dynos quicker or something?

I just got a sticker last week for my T-Bird and the shop didn't dyno test it, he violated my OBD-II port!

I heard that too. But I also heard that they were going to use something like what N.H. does, a computer that plugs into the obd port to check for codes and stuff...

For those not in the know. 96+ model years are an OBDII plug in only, and have been for as long as I can think of. Massachusetts figures that if there's an emissions issue, the monitors will definitely pick it up. However, vehicles model year 1995 and older required dyno testing because with OBDI, there was no federal mandated monitors or universal diagnostic plug. Therefore, if your car is 1996 MY or newer, you still have to follow to the same emissions standards.

Mark, they told us it was supposed to be October as well, but yesterday a few messages came up and printed out about this taking effect August 1, 2008. I think in October they're completely removing the dynos. Currently, we still have them for previous failure reinspections.

Oh, also, if you have a truck that is 8500 GVW or higher, you are also exempt (unless it's a diesel), so get your stickers now while you can.

Good news for me. Lord knows there is no way my '94 would ever pass a sniff test!!

No official word as of yet, but the rumor is that they'll have dyno stations, so you'll just have to go to one of those instead of any station at all. Although, in NH 1995 and older vehicles are just flat out exempt, so who knows. I'd say if it's within your means, you should take advantage of this before something does change.

Dammit, my car is 20 years old it should be exempt period! How many 20 year old cars are still on the road? Not many!
