I came home today and Jen was right in front of me, of course she goes and parks right in front of the garage (which she didn't know that I took the Mustang out) so I tried to honk my horn and it didn't work, kept trying and nothing. So when I finally pulled in and tried looking for loose wires and stuff and found nothing. I get a little "blaaaaah" out of it every once in a while but that's about it. For some reason I revved my engine and honked the horn and it worked. The fuse is conected to the lights and tail lights and licence plate light (which I just found out is out) but all the rest work. Any ideas of where to start looking to fix this? I'm going to be switching registration to MA soon so I think that I'm going to need a horn to pass inspection. Thanks Todd Posted by: badass98svt Where is the actual Horn located? Check the connections there first. If it works occasionally, but sounds different, then it's a bad ground/power source/connection somewhere. Posted by: bullitt5177 Either a faulty horn or faulty wiring to the horn I would say. Posted by: Mustang5L5 The horns are located in the driver's side fender. You need to remove the wheel and remove the front plastic inner fender trim to get at them. There are two. Autozone sells direct replacements on the shelf under the "highway blaster" name. They are the same brand as the ones in the fender. Only difference is you must use the supplied ground wire under the mounting bolt. The factory horns ground through the case. I had to replace my horns this summer. They are only 4 years old but did the same thing as yours is doing. When they did beep, it sounded like a dying moose. The AZ horns are louder too. EDIT: Oh wait a sec, for a classic. This may not apply. I was thinking 79-later for some reason Posted by: chachee52 Quote:
It does sound like a dying moose when it does start to work. Posted by: badass98svt LOL...PAY ATTENTION MIKE! If should be a simple issue, Todd. I think the centercap on thr steering wheel just pops off, right? Posted by: Mustang5L5 Quote:
Do you have a digital multimeter? Radio shack has em for $20 SHould be one wire going to the horn. One for each horn. They typically ground through the case. Take the wire off and touch the red lead of the DMM to the wire and the black lead to a good solid chassis ground OR the neg term of the battery. Have someone beep the horn. If you get 12V+, replace the horns Posted by: chachee52 Thanks guys, I went and tested the current through all the wires. They all read between 11.5 and 12 which is normal. Basically I hace disconected the drivers side horn and the passenger's side works, then I plug in the drivers side and it doesn't work. So there is somethign wrong with the driver's side horn. I have it disconnected for the time being and will fiddle with it later. Thanks for the help. Posted by: badass98svt Did you try hooking up the Driver's side horn to the passenger's side wires to test the "bad horn". Just another thought. Posted by: chachee52 Quote:
