My car has an obsession with objects in the road. While driving thru Norfolk, VA on the way home from Myrtle Beach, what looked to be a wadded up brown paper bag in the hammer lane turned out to be a large chunk of rock about 7-8 inches in diameter. It missed the front spoiler and bumper but tore up the under side of the car quite badly. The Prochamber and the exhaust took the brunt of it along with the rear diff. I was able to drive it home, albiet with a horrible vibration and wicked bad pinion howl. The fastest I could go was 50-55 mph the rest of the way home. The vibration worsened if I stopped for a few minutes to get gas and let it cool down, so instead of stopping for the night, I drove it straight thru. Took an extra 5 hours to get home because I had to go so slow.

Got it up on the lift and found my Prochamber is almost crushed in half. The drive shaft has almost a half a turn of play, which would explain the vibration. The u-joints are trashed on both ends. This is gonna be a costly repair. I filed an insurance claim, but the adjuster hasn't been out to see it yet. I hope who ever they send understands mechanical work and not just body parts.

I got the word from Ed on Sunday right after it happened..

I'll be praying for ya that it'll be on the road again soon enough ..

At this point, I know I am out for FFW. Considering it made it home 600 miles in that condition, I will limp it up to the car show up the street from my house this weekend at the Best Western Trade Plaza. Other than that, I will be lucky if it's done in time for the Fun Spot show.

i thought i had all the bad luck.

If the Insurance company is gonna cover it all ... Is that how long it is gonna take by bringing it to a Ford Dealer ? After all you can choose where to take it for repairs with an insurance claim.. Maybe someone else knows a quicker route.

Insurance should cover it. It's no different than hitting the deer. I will be taking it to Framingham Ford since they were an SVT dealer and have SVT mechanics on staff. The delay will probably the bickering over how much they will pay for stuff. Nothing damaged is factory, so I anticipate they will only want to replace the parts with factory stuff, which obviously is not going to happen.

Factory stuff is more expensive than most aftermarket stuff anyway. You should get a jump on the situation and have all the aftermarket parts listed, priced, and accounted for. I do that for all my motorcycle claims. I call the bike owner the night before and tell them to have receipts or printouts from the web for anything on the bike that is not factory. From there, be sure to tell them exactly which parts correspond to which receipts and printouts. Make sure the appraiser does not take depreciation on stainless steel exhaust parts, only parts which are wearable items or prone to corrosion.
Too bad you didn't have Met-Life, Mark (only90's) works for us and he was on the same trip to Myrtle Beach!!

That sucks Carol...hope you get it fixed quick...

Ed is right...if you had Met it would be fixed already

She should tell them she needs a new engine and tranny so we can use the old ones to do a swap into the FOX!!!

When I switched my insurance this year I asked specifically how they handle aftermarket add on's that may be damaged.. They said they will only cover $1,000 extra over the claim towards aftermarket products.. the rest comes out of your pocket unless you purchased extra insurance.

That is the Progressive way..

The only thing I had to do last time was present receipts for any aftermarket parts that are on the car. Then they paid for them. Without them, they will argue until you finally give in and accept less. I have Encompass Insurance.

Isn't factory stuff more expensive? Last i checked a factoy H-pipe was over $1000. I think a pro-chamber is less than that.

In fact, i think everything you listed would cost more with factory parts. If so, have em cut a check for factory stuff and then buy your aftermarket stuff and you might have enough to cover the deduct

Screw that I want it to be loose

Damn Carol....that sucks! You have plenty of time to get that thing repaired for FFW. Hell, Shelli just about totaled our Tahoe and they had it back to me as good as new in 10 days.
