RIP Scott

I was hit VERY hard by this. PJ, Becky, my Dad, and I all witnessed this in person. We went down for the race this weekend and my stomach immediately hurt after seeing him crash. I've never seen anyone go into the sand that fast....I knew instantly it was going to be bad.

Very sad....that is all I can say.

WOW Alex, what happened exactly.I didn't see any of the footage on TV.Did he wipe out when the chutes opened ?Did he die on impact ?did the car catch fire

I liked his dad Connie,he was a great racer too.Jesus English Town's where all those guys started their careers.I believe Shirly Muldowny got her license there.

This really sucks

That was absolutely horrible.
Tony...
Scott reached about the 1000' mark when his Funny car body blew off after the engine blew.
We're thinking (hoping) Scott was knocked out after the explosion. Scott's car never really slowed down, no chutes came out and the car proceeded to run into the sand, across the sand and then there was a MASSIVE explosion when he reached the end.

We KNEW something wasn't right when the track took over 30 m inutes to update us and tell us that they didn't know anything about Scott's condition. They told us it would be AT LEAST 1 hour until the track was ready again for racing. Close to an hour later, they updated us again and said that racing was cancelled for the night due to damages to the track.
On the way out to the car, we ran into someone who knew some of the track employees, who told us that Scott Kalitta had passed.

Very depressing. As Alex said, my stomach just didn't feel right at all after seeing the accident.

Pj, as you can see the chutes did come out but they were a mess and did absolutely nothing.

Man Alex that's rough. Carrie bought me the Dale Earnhardt box set.It was a movie about him.I can't believe it but in the movie they show the in car camera of Dale turning right and hitting the wall at 200. I'm still bummed about it.Really sucks when it happens to a good guy. You guys should check out some of Connies old pics of his bounty hunter car.My dad brought me to NED when I was 6,I remembered those cars,Jungle Jim,Connie,shirly, Don Garlits. Now were seeing the sons and daughters of the fore fathers of the sport.It's kinda cool.

Ashley Force is awesome.How'd she do this weekend ?

Yea thats exactly what everyone has been talking about. The sons and daughters of the legends are starting to race now, it's very cool to watch. Garlits has a Meseum now, I believe it's in Florida somewhere.

Ashely went out in the first round of eliminations but she is doing very well this year. She is still #2 in points right now with John right behind her in 3rd. 3 John Force Racing cars are in the top 5 right now.

I watched the entire event coverage yesterday.
They are saying that there was a cement post at the very end that caused the second explosion.

I have a ton of respect for Robert Hight for his classy run in the presence of Scott's team and family. That was an incredible gesture on Hight's part.
