Help...4 Channel Amp with Sub hookup

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

The above photo is what it will look like...I am kind of an audio idiot...so please help.

I am looking into a JL Audio 4 channel amp and this is what I was going to do:

-Run 2- 5.25 JL AUdio speakers in the doors(that would take up 2 channels?)

-Run my 10" JL Audio Sub to another channel?

Now can I run both my rear speakers to the last/4th channel?

or can I just leave 1 channel free?...my buddy told me not to bother with the rear speakers in my Fox hatch...as the fronts with the sub right behind me are enough?

Thanks

Someone on Corral suggested this...which makes sense to me...

Run the fronts off two of the channels, and bridge the other two channels to run the sub. This will leave the rear speakers running off your head unit only which will be fine. You will need to ensure your amp in bridgeable though so you don't melt it.

EXACTLY the way to do it.
Or, just buy a 3 channel amp. Many new amps are available with 3 channels. 2 for front or rear speakers, and 1 dedicated sub channel.

You should buy a component set for up front. This would include your 5 1/4"s, a pair of tweets and a set of crossovers. And they still only use 1 channel per side.
That can be bought for anywhere between $100-$800.
But your average $250 set would sound great.
You can even do like i did and hide your tweets in behind your center vents. No will even know they're in their.

Let me know if you have any questions, I know my fair share about the basics of car audio.

On the Cobra I simply just run a 600W RMS Kenwood and my 12" kicker Solobaric in a custom 1 cubic foot sealed box.

A GREAT place to shop is www.crutchfield.com
They have great prices and EXCELLENT customer service. They also send you free harnesses for hooking up all your OEM location speakers(like your 5 1/4s). They're free and you don't need to cut up the factory wiring. They also send you instructions on how to remove all your interior trim pieces and radio.

Hey PJ..thanks for the info..

Do the Component speakers make much of a difference.?..I am not an audio expert...but I do love it loud and to feel the base when I listen to Slayer or Metallica

+1 on what PJ said. Components will make your mids/highs sound cleaner.

Also look in to a head unit that has high/mid/low pass filters. (my Kenwood has this) it allows mid/high frequencies to go to the smaller speakers and the low to the subwoofer. Which also aids in a cleaner sound.

Yes mark, they make a big difference. much crisper highs and mid tones.
High frequencies are directional, therefore they sound best the closer they are to your ears.

Do you already have a headunit? Do you plan on installing it yourself?

I have a head unit already....I will install all the stuff myself this winter when I re-do my interior...I just am going to start looking for deals on the pieces now...then I will be ready to rock when it is time .....

My buddies are big stereo experts ....1 of them use to be an installer at tweeter and they swear by the JL Audio stuff so I am kind of leaning that way at this point.

the information in that link from corral is definitly the best way to go about it.

Component speakers in our cars are definitly the best and only way to go. Deep and powerfull midrange, nice crisp high's thats clear combine for a well balanced sound. Backed by some power from that amp its going to sound very good as comparedto a regular speaker. Given how loud your car is, you'll need all the help you can get.

and that set up is going to look great, nice and clean and factory looking.
Can't wait to check that out.
