Cobra vs GT500

Interesting comparison between the GT500 and Terminator on a road course and dragstrip.

StreetFire Video

not that I am biased or anything ha ha ha

but I do happen to agree with that video on every stance. For once a tv show or some media outlet did a good comparison and looked at stats and injected some real world data.

to defend the GT500, there simply is no replacement for displacement...the bigger motor most definitly makes gobs of power. Its more refined and a better driver/cruiser..the 03/04 cobra is true unrefined muscle and that's why I bought it.

I always tend to argue that the Cobra is the father to the GT500. Its kinda like the Griffey family. The father was amazing for his time. His son, even better for his. But there would have been no way the son would have been as good as he was without the greatness and inspiration of father. On a side note though, I agree with Ian. The Terminator is purely a raw car going back to days the of old school muscle. Nothing fancy about the interior or exterior but has it where it counts. I like to think of the GT500 as very similar to a Corvette. More of an older man's car with more amenities but still has the power. I will never put down either car for the fact that they where the same Blue Oval and were essentially created by the same man(Colletti). I hope to have both cars in my driveway some day because they represent what it means to be a Ford Mustang.

Interesting video. I would take either one. I agree with everyone that the termi is more of an unrefined beast. The GT500 has a lot of "go" but the S197's in general have a more refined, numb feeling.

Good find, that was a pretty cool vid.

Just clarifying, Colletti did open the door for the GT500 but I don't think he had anything to do with it. I think Carol Shelby/FoMoCo stepped in where Colletti left off. I wish Coletti never left, SVT would be soooo BADASS!

I can't wait for Matt Crow to see this! LOL

Is SVT dead?

Other than SVT on the center caps of the GT500, you don't see anything about them anymore. No new vehicles and they've even pulled back from the Mustang a bit

Posted by: bullitt5177

SVT logos are in a few places on the GT500, and I noticed that the 08 Bullitt's flat tire deely has a big SVT logo on it. They're still around, just not as strong as they once were, and probably in a different form.

Hmmmmm....

I'm one for the GT500 (Even though the Term is super sweet).

Anyways......there is always room to improve "Performance limitations!!!!"

335s?

But why was the driver decked out in a MOPAR race uniform ?

Posted by: 1BADSNK

Cool video Man oh man I love the SVT Cobra!!! Ya, I know big suprise

Posted by: EastCoast5.0

Those are some MEATS. Nice choice Bob.

Posted by: masscobra03

The GT500 essentially was suppoesed to be the new Cobra and Colletti's idea of what an SVT Mustang should be but when Ford signed on Shelby they knew they would be able to use his name and market to people who were more for buying the name and collectability of the car more than the peroformance aspect(see older man's car=not wanting to miss out on a collectable they were never able to or couldn't afford to own in the 60's. And just so you know, check out the engine on a GT500, the coil covers say "Powered by SVT". Pretty much the whole car is SVT with Shelby's name and badging on it sane some other things.

becuase he is a professional race car driver for formula "D" or the drift class and his sponsored by mopar. The dude has some serious skills

as for SVT being dead...the GT500 is a Shelby creation with some help from Ford. SVT went belly up once the GT was through with its production and Colletti stepped down. From what I understand there are still a group of people with in Ford trying to keep the SVT tradition alive, hence the cues from SVT on the new GT500

To all the GT500 owners, I dont think anyone is trying to slam the car. It's an awesome vehicle with HUGE potential. I just don't think the SI97 body style has earned that reputation yet of being a muscle car.

Dude....old man car?

First let me say I think both cars are awesome. Now....how do you win 3 of 4 competitions and still lose? That's like saying the Penguins won the Stanley Cup 2 days ago cause they were more fun to watch. Dumb.

Bob, what size are those tires and are you putting them on the stock rims?

And here's some vids of a GT500 Muscle car.

Not mine, not even close, but wow.

Ouch!!! Just because I have to hide the gray hair doesn't mean I'm old. (I think)

Sounds about right to me except for the older part.

Posted by: masscobra03

When I say Old Man's Car by no means do I mean grey hair or anything of that sort but more along the lines of the car is basically marketed to the older gearhead and/or collectors. Not necessarily for the people looking to just go fast. I'm not saying the car can't be made fast because mod for mod it will always outdo a Terminator, but $$$ wise and pure muscle car feel, the Terminator will always win that aspect.

I was just yanking your chain. I didn't take offence to it or anything. I agree with your last statement.

Everyone knows a Blown Fox is a Real Mustang and these Fancy Boy GT 500s and Cobras are for going to church on Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: only90s

For those that dont know me...I of course am kidding...I wish I could have either one or even both of them....

Although...the ride is almost too nice for me... I need to feel some vibration and hear an occasional rattle

+1

You guys haven't ridden in my car yet, but I built in the "vibrations and rattles" when I did all of the mods! When I'm in a euphamistic mood I call it "road feel".

+1 on the blown fox. Still love the Foxes. My first "nice" Mustang was an 87 GT I bought new at 22 years old.

Hey there -- you almost got the quoting correct. When you "close" the quote tag at the end of the text, you need to make sure that it has "/quote" surrounded by a "[" and "]"
