When applying the brakes slightly to gradually stop it squeaks until I either let up on the brakes or push on the brakes harder. Would anyone know the cause? Thanks! Posted by: Mustang5L5 Harmonics. Caliper friction points just need lubrication with some brake anti-squeal compound Posted by: bullitt5177 Most likely the squeal tabs telling you that the front brake pad material is low. Look at the caliper through the wheel and see if the brake pads are low. Posted by: badass98svt ^^^ What he said ^^^ Sounds like the tab is touching the rotor. Posted by: chachee52 Is it just some of the time? My Escape squeaked a lot this winter on and off. I had it checked a couple times at different places and they all said that it was fine. This Spring it really hasn't been a problem. Talked with a couple other people with Escapes and they had the same problem. I wouldn't worry about it. Posted by: StangChick My escape does the same thing, had the brake pads changed still does it. I have took it several places no one knows why. Posted by: chachee52 I was explained that it was the compound in the brake pads themselves. It is normal that they squeak. Supposedly with the new material that they use that's what it does. Like I said mine went away in a month or two and the pad looks fine. Posted by: Rick Sample Quote:
Posted by: badass98svt Is you used semi-metallic pads, that me be your issue. They are known to squeak. Posted by: bullitt5177 Quote:
Posted by: slowpony I agree with Bullitt, lower quality pads or inproper shimming, but I'd also check and make sure that the metal tabs in the brackets, the ones that the pads sit on are tight and not moving or hitting the rotor. Also check the caliper make sure it is not hanging up and the pins are free and lubed.
