Jeep Made me an offer I couldn't refuse

Well I have been looking around for a while now at upgrading my daily driver. My subaru was getting old, racking up the miles and needed alot of TLC. Not to mention i was sick of 5-spd in a traffic filled commute everyday. So I started to look around.

Well on Sunday I went to go check this used Patriot a local Jeep dealer had, with low expecations it was mostly to get a feel for how the patriots drove and how the fit/finish was. Well I got to the dealer and was pleasently surprised

After a little bit of work and back and forth I was very happy with the outcome and decided to pull the trigger. The deal was fantastic and I practically stole this thing from them so as the tittle says, I couldn't refuse this deal.

it's a 2007 Patriot limited loaded to the gills. 17" premium wheels, Nav, leather, heated seats, moon roof power everything and even has satelite radio for a year. 2.4 4cyl with 4x4 and gets between 23- 26mpg with the CVT tranny.

They gave me 4500 for my 99 subaru with 93k on it ( with 4 bald tires and 4 brakes that desperatley needed to be replaced ) so I was pleased.

Couldn't be happier with the vehicle, love the way it drives and i think it looks awesome. I am sad to see the subaru go bye bye, but the additional options more than make up for it.

Nice.

Did they ask for $19,000 down and $700/month like the Infiniti dealer did to me for a lease

Maybe the saleman knew you'd regret selling the GT

Screw that. I walked into that dealer with every intention of giving up the stang.

For some reason, the dealer couldn't quite understand why i walked away from paying $30K to "borrow" a $36K car for 3 years only to give it back. He still calls me up.

Congrats, how does the CVT tranny feel?

Congrats! My sister has one that they bought brand new last year. They had a "great deal" and only paid $500 over sticker!!!(I'm not joking!!!)
One thing that I will say, it was a pain in the butt to install the XM stuff so you are lucky that you have it factory installed.
Have fun with it!

I never buy new vehicles, its a total waste of money. I basically stole this one from them.

Sticker on the Jeep was 25,8xx
Book value was 22,500
I paid 18,800, they gave me 4500 for my subaru
With 6400 miles and every option available I was pleased. I wasn't going to find a better deal so i bit.

the CVT is wierd, I am still trying to get used to it. Gas mileage around town isnt as up to par yet, but that mostly has to do with my driving and lack of expierence with the CVT. Highway gas mileage is excellent. It is neat though the way it feels, it acts as a standard when decelarating, you can feel the truck slowing down when off the gas.

I like the Patriot. I'll be looking at those when it's time for our Grand Cherokee to go. Either a Patriot or Ford Edge

yeah for me it came down to patriot vs escape.....bottom line was I didn't need a v6 so I went with the patriot

Looks nice Ian!
How 'bout some interior shots?

I have a V6 Escape and the gas mileage for the FWD is the same as the 4 cylinder. I think it has to do with the wieght of the car.

Same thing for the V6 and V8 Exploders. Listed as the same mileage (proven as such as well), but V6 Exploders are FAR more common than V8s.

CVTs are cool beans though. I always get a kick out of driving them. Ian, try neutral dropping it. It won't let you, it's pretty cool. They're very reliable transmissions as well. As I said before, you stole that thing. Congrats.

I get about 14 MPG on the HIGHWAY with my 4.0 OHV Exploder.

But, it runs great. I can't understand it. I even installed a conical filter and bigger MAF housing. I also ran a can of Seafoam through it.
I'm going to do the plugs/wires but I keep putting it off. 2 of the plugs are nearly impossible to get at. I think I need to take the passenger's side tire off along with the inner fender well. WTF

Shitty gas mileage + Shitty gas prices = The suck.

Plugs in any Explorer are ten times easier through the wheel well. Just hope they aren't too old, they like to rust and sometimes break.

I had a similar problem. My 01 Explorer Sport (aka "The 'Sploder") was getting about 16mpg. K&N FIPK and new quality wires. (Yeah, doing the wires sucks!) Dana at Pro Tree told me to put the tires up to 35lb and it would handle better and get better mileage. He was right. I'm now getting about 20mpg and I don't feel like the ass wants to come around when cornering any more. My tires are almost gone anyway, so I decided to try it. Not enough miles yet to know if they're gonna wear a lot in the middle. Give it a try?

Posted by: badass98svt

I've always kept the Explorer's tires at 35. I call mine the 'Sploder too LOL
The stang I keep at 32.
Actually, my mighty little Exploder isn't half as bad as I thought it would be, as far as handling goes.

Interesting. I, too, wonder why you're getting that crappy mileage then. The only time I got mileage that lousy was when the oil cap went missing and I lost the seal on the system. Believe me, that will have a major effect on mileage! Maybe your Sploder needs a friend. Wanna buy mine?

But I keep my vert at 35 lbs, too. But that's because I have Kumho 712s on it and they are very stiff so it takes that much pressure to push the center of the tire down to the road. LOL

But after the latest work on the 5.0 the Kumhos aren't sticky enough any more as they are happy to smoke their way through at least the first 3 gears, and they're also getting down on tread, so I will most likely go to 555s or something like that soon. The Kumhos handle like crazy, but that ain't enough any more!

Great deal! I wanted one of those when I saw them a couple years back. I didn't have the money though.
