Found the culprit of my wobbly rear wheels.

Put the left wheel on with open lugs, tightened down and the wheel still rocked side to side & up and down. Upon closer inspection, the wobble was coming from the axle. Sure enough, go to take off the axle retaining nut and it was only hand tightened on. That should be on with 240 ft lbs of torque .

Snugged it up and of course the wobble almost disappears but not quite. Given that there has been a howl in the rear of the car that started at the end of last year, and has progressively been worsening, I was gonna blame it on the gears even though they were just replaced 2 years ago. Now, I know that howl was the wheel bearings.

I wish something would just go right with this car !!!

Just be glad it's something simple, and that you caught it in time. Could've gotten pretty bad.

Good thing you caught it....I need to check my front end soon...possible that I may need some tie rods or ball joints....although it could just be shitty ole route 2 and it's grooved lanes.

hey carol, glad you were able to track it down atleast.....

at least it's a pretty easy/cheap fix. Wheel bearings aren't that expensive

So far it's up to $87 for bearings, c - clips, & seals, this is provided the hubs aren't trashed. If they are this will become over $1000.00. Hub assembly is $529 each.

I hate car problems.........

I really hope your Hubs prove to be okay.

529 for a hub, ouch

The one I did on my Jeep was 130

When it comes to cars...i prefer the KISS theory. Less expensive to replace parts that way

She means a knuckle. They're pressed in bearings in the Cobras.
