I dont think buffing is an option... The details are in my orignal post. http://www.mcrparts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13034 I am such a DOPE.... ![]() Notice the nicely decorated ground with True Blue Metallic paint chips.... ![]() ![]() Notice the nicely colored curb that I so smartly decided to paint with my front end.. ![]() ![]() Not too sure if a "Bro" will cover up the damage until i can afford a complete paint job but it might be worth a try.. Saleen has a specific bra for the Saleen bumpers.. ![]() Maybe with a "BRO" and some touch up paint I might be able to get through the summer. I just hate to buy a bra for it and not have it cover it up .. I am such a DUMB ASS!!!! ![]() ![]() I guess the upside is nothing is broken or cracked that I can tell , other than my spirit being broken and the paint being cracked that is.... ![]() Below is a picture of a Saleen specific Bra, I have some touch up paint for the car but I just dont think it would work.... what a drag....
Posted by: gilmar4 sorry man! Don't think that can be buffed. that sucks! Posted by: EastCoast5.0 Again, sorry dude...and no it can't be buffed, theres no paint to buff lol. I wouldn't waste any time and $ with that "bro." It doesn't look like it comes up enough to cover it up, and it also makes the whole front end look shitty with that see though netting. What I'd do: 1.)Wash/clean off the front end real good. 2.)Smoothen all the roughed up areas with fine grit sand paper. 3.)Grab some touch up paint and do your best. It obviously isn't the right way to do it and wont look super nice but the way I see it is it'll blend better then leaving it white or putting that bro on and having the whole front end look funky. It'll be a cheap fix till you get the whole thing painted Posted by: ToplessPony94 Quote:
![]() ![]() I saw your car for the first time last weekend at Pete's and loved it. As another enthusiast still waiting for the $$$ for a paint job, I understand completely. Sounds like you already got the advice I might have given. Sorry, man. Posted by: TorchRedSVT ouch, that's definitly a bummer. Luckily though you didn't crack the bumper or anything and it can just be re-painted. Honestly, it looks like the bra isn't going to work....touch up paint might be the way to go for now. Shoot Ed a PM ( lilblksnake) , he might be able to help you out and get a good price to have the bumper repainted. Posted by: only90s Hey Barry....WTF...sorry brother... Here is what I suggest: 1.PM Ed-LILBLKSNAKE and see what he says 2. I only paid $300 to get my whole bumper painted a couple years ago..granted it was off the car but could even check into that...(If you are going to have to spend $120ish on a bro...I would check with Maaco..they could probably re-spray the damaged area for that price) might hold you over until the re-paint or the cheap way: 3.I Think there is too much for touch up paint, but could always give it a shot or you could find some blue spray paint that matches pretty close...spray it up and cover all the white Then put a bro on to cover it up...if you use spray paint you are going to have to cover up the rest of the car pretty good.....so you dont get overspray... Posted by: badass98svt That SUCKS barry. I had a mishap this year when taking my car out of storage. i'd do as Alex suggested. Go to pep Boys or Auto Zone and buy some touch-up paint in a spray can. Rough up the edges and get all the loose stuff off, then smooth it out real nice and hit it with a quick coat of primer, then spray it with the True Blue touch-up. I bet it won't look THAT bad. i had a Saleen Bra on my old 97 GT, but it completely covered the front end, from what I remember anyway. The one pictured above won't do ish to hide it. +1 Did not realize they had spray touch up.....that might just work...dont be afraid to ask for help if you are afraid to paint that beauty....I did all the flat black moldings, door handles, wiper arms etc and brakes on my car... Posted by: badass98svt I'm pretty good with a rattle can as well, if you need help and i'm available Barry. Posted by: EastCoast5.0 If I'm around I'll def help out too. Posted by: hurtin_monky Robbins auto parts in Manchester can custom mix your color and put it in a rattle can. If you bring a chunk sample in you could probably get a pretty close match. Posted by: hurtin_monky they may even be able to add some flex agent to it as well Posted by: MY-S281 Hey Guys.. You guys are the BALZ!!! ![]() I truly appreciate everyone offering up their assistance and all the great suggestions .. I went by and saw Bob R where Mark (only90s) got his car painted and he told me he pretty much got out of the paint business and recommended a local guy @ Car-One Auto Body.. Anyone familair with their work.. they are over off Pelham Road across from Dusty's I spoke with the guy at the shop and we discussed a couple of options.. # 1 option was repairing the damage I did today, he pretty much told me that he would take care of clenaing it all up and spraying out the entire bumper for $425-$450 #2 option was a complete paint job including all the prep etc , he said for a quality job done correctly it will run me about $4500.. So it looks like the only option now is to go with the repaint of the bumper unless I just want to touch it up using a couple of the ideas suggested.. If I was convinced it would not look like Shi* I might try it.. I also have another buddy of mine with a freind that has a shop in Lowell I think, not sure of the shop name but I will find out , he sent pics over to him today and he said he would do the entire bumper for $400.. Not sure but I will PM ED and see what his thoughts are on the pricing.. I also want to keep in mind the location of the shop for ease of coordinating the job.. I am such a F'N bone head!!! Again I honestly cant thank everyone enough,, you guys ROCK!! ![]() I'm proud to be a part of NHMC and also proud to know many of the guys in NEBOC... Posted by: fredfordguy bummer, looks like you've plenty of options from everyone. Kudo's to Tony for keeping this site for our use. Nice to have around. Some different from the early club years. My first memories of computers and NHMC was doing some articles on a franklin. Posted by: badass98svt Barry, 1 more FYI Saleen bumpers are Notorius for being difficult to paint. When I bought the front and rear bumpers for my old car they came with special directions on how to prep. And I still had to send it back twice to have them fix the front bumper. There was a huge air pocket under the paint, TWICE. It wasn't there at first but would show up after a week or so. You may want to ask Rick or Pete or Dana if they know of any shops that have painted Saleens stuff before. Posted by: LILBLKSNAKE Quote:
I'm going to guess around 400.00 unless you need to blend into the fenders, which probably isn't neccessary judging from the damage location. I'll have to see it up close to see how much you would need to repair. Posted by: TorchRedSVT hey man, thats what we are here for. Take a deep breath and just remember it's just a car and it can be fixed. We have all been there and done something like that back in 2003 i backed into a parked car in my apartment parking lot..cuased about 400 bucks worth of damage to my rear bumper. It happens bro!!! Posted by: LILBLKSNAKE Tell them that Jay backed into it on an NHMC cruise
Posted by: EastCoast5.0 ^^^ Lol Posted by: badass98svt Quote:
Well, duh. It's actually called True Blue.I wasn't concerned with the paint matching. I was saying that Saleen bumpers require special prep work. LOL, did you even read what I typed? Ed, if you want, you can blame it on A.D.D. I do Posted by: LILBLKSNAKE Quote:
Posted by: badass98svt You can add a chapter in their for me too.
Posted by: pony281 we can fix it but id need to see it before a quote could be given . the bumper needs to be removed and sanded down to the raw plastic material and checked for any fine cracking that usually occurs when an impact like that happens. it is very diffficult to see unless the repair process has started. we use "spies hecker " refinishing products and without a doubt the bumper needs to be removed . then the proper plastic primer needs to be used after the repair and before the 2 stage top coat goes on . but after its all done it will be just like new . all our finishes are wet sanded and buffed for a flawless finish ... oh and we do add teh flex additive in the clearcoat .......... Thanks for taking the time to look at my car and I appreciate the input on the repair.. I look forward to your upcoming Dyno Day cookout!!

Posted by: MY-S281 Bumper Repair Update... Due to some current financial restrictions it looks like I am going to try to repair up the spoiler myself , starting screwing with it today and I dont think its going to look all that bad when all is said and done.. . I got a small bottle of touch up form a compnay on the internet and I touched it up today without really doing any prep just to see how they did matching the factory color, they did a pretty dam ggod job so I am ordering up the True Blue Metallic spray bomb today.. I am pretty confident with some gpood prep work the spray bomb will work just fine until I get get the whoe car sprayed..... Then again anything will look better than it did after my bone head move.....lol.. What grit paper do you would be good for feathering in the edges someone had mentioned 360 to me..? Posted by: LILBLKSNAKE Quote:
Prime the spot, but make sure you scuff the old paint around the area before primer or the primer/paint will eventually lift in that area. Do a couple coats of primer, then smooth it with the 500. Spray a few coats of the spray-bomb color, but make sure you scuff around the primer area enough where you kinda blend in the new color over the old color. Posted by: MY-S281 Thanks ED... Posted by: LILBLKSNAKE How soon are you going to do this?? If you get some 2000 grit wet-sand paper, I'll clean up the repaint area and run the buffer over it. Posted by: MY-S281 Quote:
Pretty much any parts store should have the wet sand paper right?? I will pick some up during the week. How long will it take clean it up and run the buffer over it? I live about 3-5 mins. from the Pep Boys in Salem.. Posted by: LILBLKSNAKE I start softball on Tuesday and Thursday nights this week. I can usually do it on a Saturday morning or after church on a Sunday Do you think it will be ready by this Saturday?? Posted by: MY-S281 Quote:
