Tire balancing Issue(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)Posted by: MY-S281 Hi Guys, Put the new wheels and rubber on the car last night and took it for a short blast and then brought it to work today so I could get a feel for the new setup on the Highway.. Well as mentioned and warned by a few folks it looks like I am going to have to have the wheels rebalanced.. Cruising at about 55-60'ish I am definetely getting some vibrations in the steering wheel, Never even had the slightest issue with the old set up so I think its safe to say they didnt do a very good job on balancing them, not sure how that is possible unless they used a bad machine or someone didnt have a freaking clue about what they were doing.. ![]() Question is who should I go to locally to have them rebalanced where I wont have to worry about them screwing up things or marking up the wheels taking them off and on the car and balancing machine.. ![]() Any idea of how much $$$ you think it will run me ?? Posted by: langod Two recommendations. Sulllivan Tire in Salem. Talk to "Vic" -- tell him Jim C from 8-ball sent you. Or talk to Rick Lacourse and see if he can do them at the Toyota dealership. Remounting and balancing shouldn't be more than $20/tire, anywhere. Posted by: TorchRedSVT i used NTB a few years ago in Salem and they did a good job. Who mounted/balanced the orignally? Posted by: gilmar4 I swear by Town Fair Tire..Salem, NH. Ask for Jay or Rich, mention the Red Mach and the Blue Lightning. They'll know the Lightning for sure, it is getting new rims and tire today... Posted by: MY-S281 Quote:
The setup came all mounted and balanced as a package deal... 18x9's 255/35/18 Nitto 555's and 18x10's 285/35/18 Nitto 555's I emailed them this morning to let them know , not that they can do or will do much for me unless I want to send them back... Quote:
Thanks Guys.. Posted by: bullitt5177 Or you could just bring it by Regan Ford and ask for Scott S. to do it for you. You won't have to worry about me damaging the car or wheels. Posted by: MY-S281 Quote:
It was nice meeting you finally at ED day.. I might just that, what will they charge for balancing?? Posted by: LILBLKSNAKE Quote:
Posted by: bullitt5177 The sign out front says $51.85 for balancing and rotation. But I don't know if it'd be cheaper than that or not considering you don't need a rotate. Awesome balancer too. Road force capable and you can set it to set the weights behind the spokes. I've had very few issues with it. BTW, nice to meet you too Barry. Posted by: Mustang5L5 Quote:
I actually think they need to be redone. They have 30K miles and i have a slight vibration in the front. But i guess that's to be expected. I might make 40K with these Bridgestone Potenza's even though everyone said they get 20-25K tops out of them. I'm already at 32K
Posted by: badass98svt I've been to Sears a bunch of times. FYI about Town Fair Tire....They will NOT mount tires that were not purchased from them. Last time I bought new tires I brought them to them, and Town Fair refused to mount them. Even though they still had the stickers on the tires. Posted by: Mustang5L5 That's why Scotty had to do mine the last time. The thing is, i refuse to bring them the car. When i do tires, they get the wheels only. It just makes buying tires and rebalancing them a HUGE PITA to me. I'm thining of just taking 1 wheel off at a time and doing 1 a week Actually, i just remembered i have 1 bent bullit wheel. Anyone know where i can buy one OEM 17x8 Ford Bullitt wheel? I think it was like $160/wheel Posted by: MY-S281 Quote:

I need to go back and look through my records and see. Maybe i'm wrong. I put 60 miles/day on my Mustang...all highway. It's a damn good highway cruiser Posted by: Mustang5L5 Quote:
Scott, if i ever bring my car there and request you, will you be the only one to drive or touch it? Posted by: TorchRedSVT Quote:
Posted by: bullitt5177 Yep Mike. If you request me, I'll be the only one to drive it/work on it. Posted by: MY-S281 I say drive the hell out of them, I cant see getting to concerned with the amount of miles.. I understand watching the miles to a certain extent if you have something for more a show piece verse a TOY... To each his own.. I pretty much drive mine to work every day from Salem NH to Billerica Ma. plus I drive it as much as possible after work and on the weekends until it gets put up for the season sometime in Nov or Dec.. Probably avg. 350-400 miles a week... I guess I could drive my other vehicle and save about $25 a week in fuel but whats the point , this time of year is made for cruising with the top down and tooling around.. Oh man, that some funny shlt right there. BTW, I drove by your house earlier tonight around 10. I beeped about 10 times. LOL Posted by: bullitt5177 Yeah, he does that all the time. Glad to hear the shake is gone. Remember to retorque those wheels. I'm happy to help Barry, happy everything's good in the hood. Posted by: badass98svt I think my Ex needs 2 rear tires. Not positive though, so I don't want to buy new ones and have it not fix my slight shimmy. Posted by: MY-S281 Quote:
What are they supposed to be tourqued to? Posted by: MY-S281 Quote:

Posted by: MY-S281 Quote:
Posted by: bullitt5177 I torqued them to 100 ft.lbs, but the spec is 90-110 I believe, so anywhere in that range. Posted by: badass98svt Scotty yes, 90-110 ft./lbs is correct. i always torque mine to 1oo. Can you look for two 235/65 15s for me at work? They're an OEM size for some Explorers. I have a slight shimmy, but don't want to fork out $200 and still have a shimmy. The fronts are new on the Ex. It's gotta be the rears. Posted by: bullitt5177 I'll keep my eye out PJ, but it's not very often that people remove good tires, although I did get a free set of snows for the Focus (practically brand new) the other day. Posted by: Mustang5L5 When i torque my wheels, i do 50 ft-lbs, 75 ft-lbs and then 100 ft-lbs in a star pattern and then retorque to 100 after driving about 25 miles.
