I really dont wanna dish out money for a head replacement..that can spit a plug out again I wouldnt mind buying the kit myself and doing it..but just really wondering if anyone had experience with them thanks alex Posted by: badass98svt That sucks Alex. How ya been? Haven't heard from you in a while. That is definitely a common issue. Did you recently change your plugs? Posted by: Mustang5L5 Which plugs did you replace them with? I guess the new Ford SP-493's have more threads and are supposed to help with the problem. Aftermarket plugs have been known to "spit" more often than OEM plugs. They also say don't use anti-sieze as it will cause them to back out. I know that doesn't help now, but the 99+'s are very prone to throwing plugs....reason why i haven't touched mine yet. Posted by: AlexxStanger00 i wish i knew...but I dont think it matters on the plugs threads...since they are goin into the same head wich only has a few threads to hold it anyways..crappy ford design my stang is at 140,000miles and i've never touch antiseize..why lubricate something that can come loose anyways..just torque it to spec and call it a day. Also, a lot of sparkplugs are designed to prevent seizing up anyways ive changed my sparkplugs once at 100K...put in autolites 764s...they crapped out @ 135K miles (since they only have a life of 30k)....and I put in autolites again...and that cylinder head just decided to spit 1 out but..anyone know anyone or a shop that can help me out?..i wanna drive my stang again before next week comes..i really need my car back for transportation to school and work thanks Posted by: Mustang5L5 There was talk on Stangnet about a great DIY kit for this sort of thing which guys have used with good results. It was a while back so i'll see if i can find it Posted by: AlexxStanger00 i know the cheap kit is helicoils (but with this..u dont really know how far the helicoil actually sits in the hole...so ur sparkplug might be too low and hit the head..or too high) and the more expensive kit are timeserts (works awesome...and sits the sparkplug similiar to OEM and is a permanant repair) thats the only 2 kit I know I was gonna buy the timesert but I just wanted to see if a mechanic had one already and can do the job for me EDIT: just called a local mechanic thats owns a S281...he quoted me 300bux for a lock-n-stitch for insert kit..another place in tewksbury charged $300 using the helicoil kit.. wonder if I could find a better price for the rethread at other shops Ford Mustang Archive Home | General Tech | 5.0 Mustang Tech | 4.6 Mustang Tech | 3.8 Mustang Tech | 2.3 Mustang Tech | Classic Mustang Tech | Appearance and Sound | Virtual Body Shop | Initiation | The Lounge | The Showroom | Site Suggestions | Mustang Talk | 2005 Ford Mustang | Ford Lightning | Racers Bench | For Sale | Wanted To Buy | Northeast | SouthEast | Central | MidWest | West Coast | NEBOC
