Well, as they say, "the check is in the mail..."

As a new member, I can't wait to meet the rest of you and swap stories and ideas (and maybe a few parts, too)!

As you will see in my car info, a lot of work will be going on starting next week, so my car isn't going anywhere for a while, but it should be done in time for Spring if it ever gets here.

Hope to see you at the next get-together.

Well, next week has turned into next month, but things are progressing. The GMB water pump is a piece of junk (the impeller rubbed on the block) and the 1.7 rockers didn't give enough p/v clearance with the stock short block and the Twisted Wedges, so reset back to 1.6 arms. Other than that, things are looking good. The 1.6 arms and proper pushrods arrived today. Should be done soon.

What cam did you go with? Did you go back to a stock water pump?? FYI, Flowkooler's pumps come with a LIFETIME warantee.

We'll have to meet up this summer sometime, our cars are very alike.

I went with an OEM replacement level aluminum pump (I forget whose). I got the TFS 51402000 cam. They call it a Stage 1, but I would call it more than that.

Yes, I'd like to meet up. I'm always interested in other people's cars, ideas and suggestions and especially when they have the same general goals. Mine are to stay naturally aspirated and to build more of a road racer than a drag car. I'm less interested in raw horsepower than in good speed and handling. Does that sound like you, or maybe no?

Posted by: EastCoast5.0

Nice. Yea staying N/A and pulling out power that way is great. Someday I may slap a blower on it but for now I'll stick to being simple.

More HP the better for me lol, but I agree on the aspect of having a well rounded car. After doing autocross last year I love taking turns!

Welcome. I too am a big fan of going topless!!

Don't be afraid to jump right in and be heard. All opinions are welcome. Need advice, ASK!!!
See ya around.

Well, my pony is still not back in one piece. All of the mechanicals and moving parts are great, but it's still sitting at Pro Tree. Not Dana's fault, he's great. The problem is the 5.0 in the SN95 and that dumb elbow on the intake. Trying to get valve covers to fit this arrangement with the twisted wedges and all is very frustrating.

A friend of Dana's is going to modify the TFS covers by tig welding an oil fill tube in the only place it can go and clear all of the other junk in the way. A normal attachable fill tube won't work there because there's no room for a fitting inside the cover in that spot because of the rockers. We'll have to do something to accomodate the EFI hose, too.

Hoping for a cruise next weekend...

Posted by: EastCoast5.0

Do you have the tall or short covers?? I was able to squeeze a filler/breather up front, behind the alt with the shor valve covers. This is with the stock intake though. Shit, I hope the TFS intake doesn't have that problem...

Here's an old pic

Posted by: badass98svt

What IS the reason for that elbow anyway? With a foxbody throttle cable, could you lose the elbow off the intake?

Yes, I have the short TFS covers, twisted wedges and the TFS intake. That's the problem. The TFS intake is bigger, and the twisted wedges have a higher deck for the covers to allow shorts to fit over the higher rockers. The short covers are a must because tall covers won't fit under the TFS intake. The problem is that using short covers doesn't leave room for the filler tube fitting inside the covers because of the higher rockers, except for a couple of spots. And neither of these spots works with all of the junk in the way on a 5.0 SN95. The "good" news is that the stock valve covers would have worked, but I just don't want those crappy covers under my hood any more! BTW, the stock tower brace won't work with the TFS intake either. I used the BBK brace, but most of the aftermarket braces should work fine.

The reason for the elbow is that with the more rounded body of the SN95 there isn't room for the tb to come off the intake straight. There's just less room under the SN95 hood. This makes a real mess of things over on that side above the valve cover. It's even difficult to find room to get the plug wires through the tangle.

I'll be sure to post pictures when this thing is back together. Right now it's still at the chinese puzzle stage.

Topless, I have the same setup besides the intake (I have the intake, just havn't put it on yet). I'm aware of the issue, I'm just saying, you can't put the filler/breather up front where mine is?? Does the TFS intake/elbow come out at a different angle?

BTW, what filler are you using?? TFS makes a slim piece that may fit...

PJ, there's more misc parts and brackets to do the fox swap then just the TB cable. I have a list somewhere. It looks awesome when done though.

Yup, that's the filler I'm using. But to get it into the same position as yours it will hit the rockers. At least this is what Dana tells me. The only way to get it into that position without hitting the rockers is to cut it off so it will be flush with the inside of the cover and tig weld it to the outside. BTW, this also involves screwing up the raised Trick Flow logo. Maybe something else will work out when the filler arrives on Tuesday or Wednesday, but that's what he's saying right now. I hope he's wrong and so does he. I'll keep you posted. Also, you may want to think about putting the TFS 3/8" spacer into your intake to make a bit more room. That should fit under the SN95 hood, but the 1" spacer will not fit for sure, except maybe if you get a taller hood like the Cobra R cowl hood.

Posted by: EastCoast5.0

Hmmm good luck man. I have an extra Moroso filler if ya need it. It clears my rockers (1.7s) no problem in that spot.

I have that intake spacer as well.

Thanks for the offer - much appreciated. But I think I'm OK. We "redesigned" the TFS covers with the welder and all is well. I heard my car run for the first time this year at Pro Tree tonight! Music to my ears!

There are still some details to clean up (wiring to complete, tuning and a driveshaft loop) but it's basically done. It sounds a bit meaner than before, and idles rougher of course. And I may need a dynotune from Pete.

Dana really stuck with this project through some really weird-ass issues and it seems to be ending up just fine. Hopefully all will be well and I'll meet a lot of you on the 26th at Dyno Day.

ya there are always weird issues .....Dana helped me with one of mine and sent me on the road to Success and then Pete finished it off with a good tune...so you are in good hands....cant wait to see it/hear it at Dyno Day

Yup! That's what I'll be doing. Dana called Pete and he agreed to tune me at the end of Dyno Day on Saturday unless too many of the rest of you show up.

Posted by: ToplessPony94

Well, the vert is finally running very well. Between Dana and Pete they figured it out and took care of business. Now all that remains is for Pete to finish the tune he tried to do on dyno day until we figured out that the ignition was messed up.

I'll post another thread next week with some pictures of the car and the work and a description of the work and what happened. And why Dana calls my car the Rubic's Cube.

Hats off to Dana! He stuck with a large ration of problems until all was well, even (and especially) when it was tempting to quit. More on that next week. I expect to see many of you Saturday night, with a car that finally runs well and is still only a little bit disassembled. It may not be the cleanest, since I won't have much time between now and then.
