Do I have a syncro going bad?

Every once in awhile, when I get on the gas hard, I get a slight grinding noise going into third gear. This lasts for a couple of shifts into third and then it goes away. This happens on the up shift or down shift.

Also, I haven't had it happen if I turn the Traction Control off and get on it.

Thanks in advance!

It's the crappy T-3650 transmission. It's well known for it's issues with 2nd and 3rd gear.

2001 is the worst year for it. They fixed it around 2003ish...sorta.

Your synchro could be brand new and what you have described could still happen. It's a transmission design flaw. The syncho doesn't bite hard enough to slow the gear down. A "fix" is to ditch the synthetic fill and go with conventional ATF in the trans as it's less slick. It will grab the gear a little better and may fix the issue.

have a read if you have 2-3 hours
