2007 Ford Shelby GT to run in the SCCA

The 2007 Ford Shelby GT Mustang will be running in the T2 class in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) competition. Geared up with Ford Racing Performance Packs, this Ford Mustang is well-positioned to make a dramatic impact in the circuit as well as the aftermarket.

"Mustang has a long winning tradition in road racing, and Ford Racing plans to build on that heritage,” said Jamie Allison, Ford Racing Performance Group Manager. “The Ford Shelby GT, along with FRPP-modified Mustangs, can now continue the Mustang racing legacy, started by Carroll Shelby, that has its roots in SCCA competition.”

Each SCCA's Touring class is formulated to permit SCCA members to compete in mainstream late model vehicles, such as the Ford Mustang. SCCA regulations require that these vehicles are to be kept very close to being street-legal, with minimal modifications to uphold a level of competitiveness and safety.

The T2 class competition is very diverse ranging from high powered rear-wheel-drive platforms like the Ford Mustang GT or the Pontiac GTO, to all wheel drive vehicles like the Subaru WRX and Mitsubishi Lancer EVO.

“The Ford Racing packs, available on Mustangs, provides for a more competitive field and fits well with the intent and spirit of the T2 class,” said Jeremy Thoennes, SCCA Technical Services Manager.

Keep an eye out on the track for more of these aftermarket Ford Mustangs to make a presence. We'll be sure to let you know if we see more ponies on the pavement.

I know a lot of you are into straight line performance but if you ever get a chance to get to a road race event, it's worth it. I was at Road America in 1965 when the then new 427 Cobras hit the track, just amazing what they did to the Corvettes. Think I have to go back this June to see how the Shelbys do this time. Always a good time at that track.
