I don't have my windows vista installed just yet, so I found these screenshots by searching google! If I must say so myself... I think the overall look and feel of it is just so much more professional than my windows XP Pro.

im going to install it in the next few days, i ran rc1 for about a week before getting frustrated with all the incompatibilities, hopefully drivers/software/windows have all come together enough to produce something that works....

I installed it on 2 work machines and they seem to respond slower and talk about using up memory this operating system is a hog. I don't really see any benefits of yet. Apple needs to win one of hundred law suites to allow the Mac operating system to run windows applications legally. Bill and Steve should let the old past die and let the best man(operating system) win. I am going to convert half of my Intel machines to Mac operating system next week. I have equal software for each when it comes to high end stuff but all the under $100 software is windows only. The machine that I converted to a Mac running my CAD software one running Vista and one running XP. The Mac is 36% faster running the same data than Vista and the XP is 22% faster than Vista. Something else is that the Mac software is true multitask operating system just like a main frame and Windows(XP,Vista) still does not operate in that mode.

I switched to Apple about 4 months ago and there is no way in hell im going back to a PC.

I have 3 old Mac machines(1990's Models) that run 7.5 and they run faster than a P4 2.8 GHz machine running the same software for Windows. I don't use any machine even my home machines for games since I have Game Machines. I really don't like the price of Mac software or selection is why I changed to new Windows machines about 10 years back but I am switching all my window machines to Mac Panther OS. I am switching 4 over today and when they run OK I am switching the others over.

The rule-of-thumb I've been hearing is that if you didn't buy your PC in the last year (and it needs to be a good one, not a $300 special) and you don't have at least a Gig of RAM, than Vista is not going to run fast with all it's graphical goodness turned on.

Bah. I'll stick with XP for now, don't need to buy a new PC just for eye candy......

wait a sec... switching windows machines to mac? does this mean mac has an OS that could replace xp in my IBM compat. PC ??

not from my understanding......mac switch to intel proccessors a while back so now apple is mecomeing more compatable with the pc platform, but it is not compatable engough to just install it on any pc.....

if it were and they had a dx10 equivalent i think apple would have a bestseller and micrisift would be truely not selling much of anything

Let me know how it goes and if you see any benifits of it yet

Posted by: kissajew86

I installed it as a dual login to windows2000.

it has some compatability issues with winamp and some of my games such as prey.

It does seem slower....and my hardware is not dated by any means

c2d 6400, 2 gig ram, 7900gt video card....

But then of course this comes from someone who dosent see the benifit in windows xp.....some fluf for nothing in my eyes except for some intigrations like cd burning and such, which can be easily suplamented with nero....

Doesn't look like their is a lot differen't with the new Windows vista besides a few new effects.

Posted by: kissajew86

yeah and i just read an article that they will be releaseing the vista replacement in 1-2 yrs anyways it is codenamed Vienna

Posted by: kissajew86

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_%22Vienna%22

Here is some more info bout the situation, looks like microsoft released an "intermediary" bersion so they could make some $$ then when the final version comes out then they get more $$

makes sence becasue everyone in the world has been griping about how there is not a lot to get excited about vista

If you want it to run fantastic with all the visual effects you just need a good video card. I'm running Vista on a computer almost 6 years old. 1.5ghz P4, 448mb ram, 80 gig HDD, and a 128mb Radeon 9600. It runs a little slower than XP but I needed to reinstall anyway because I hadn't reinstalled but one other time 3+ years ago. Some error message just starting popping up over and over again and none of the solutions I found on the internet would make it stop, so there wasn't really any reason not to at least see how it would run. I don't have Aero effects turned on because I don't have enough RAM so it doesn't run as bad as I thought it would.

I only had two driver issues, one was my sound card and the other was my SATA controller, but simply downloading new drivers solved that. Other than that I've had no other issues, including software. iTunes works fine (even though Apple said it wouldn't), Winamp works fine, AIM, etc.
