ok...if i just buy the flowmaster 40 series mufflers, will they be put on by welding or is it just bolt on?

Posted by: Mustang5L5

Depends?? Just the mufflers?? weld

But if you buy a cat-back, it bolts and clamps on

Posted by: ponycrazy2002

yeah the mufflers...and umm...how much would it be to get the old one's off and put the new ones in...

I went to a local exhaust shop and got mine welded on for $375...that price includes the mufflers, tips and all piping.

I bought two mufflers and had the old ones cut our, and the new ones welded into the stock pipes for $50 by my local mechanic.

I bought my entire flowmaster kit at a local shop for around $400 I think... installation and everything included.

I bought my flowmaster american thunder cat-back for $350ish or something like that.

I installed it myself in an hour.

i think im gonna go for the whole catback...but how do i get rid of my old gt catback...i wanna sell it ...lol..ebay maybe?

Posted by: Mustang5L5

Good luck. I eventually sold my stock cat-back for $50 to someone who wanted to quiet their modified car down. I got lucky. I know other guys that have sold them for even less.

If you're gonna do it -- get the mid pipe too. I got a MAC H-pipe from Tony here and WOW -- it sounds freakin awesome. The Flowmasters alone were nice, but the H-Pipe gives it that special "something" that makes everyone turn, look and give the Thumbs Up

edit -- oh, and the h-pipe gave me 10rwhp and 25lbs of Torque on the dyno, too....

I just had the old exhaust shop through mine out. I just have a V6, but I don't think it's worth it to haul the thing back and to use storage space in my garage for just a few bucks.

I'd buy an Offroad h pipe before I were to buy 2 mufflers.
You will notice a better sound and much more performance compared to just installing 2 Flowmasters.
Period.

Buy a nice O/R Mac H pipe from Tony here on the site, and a pair of MIL eliminators and you'll be good to go.
Then save up for a nice Catback exhaust system.

Just remember, an off road pipe has no cats, so it's very illegal. It does sound awesome though. I also have a MAC off-road H-pipe.

The car will sound much better with the new mufflers, but while you have it in put an x pipe on it too. I wish I would have.

A good rule of thumb...
Flowmasters + X pipe = Bad
"straight through" + X pipe = Good
Chambered mufflers + H pipe = Good
