This is the MCRParts.com archive. To get back to our main site, please follow this link: Ford MustangStyle Changes(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)Posted by: Rick Sample I'm interested in what you guys would think of some changes in the body of the forum? Any ideas? Nothing to do with the header or sidebars, only the body. One thing that I think would be pretty nice would be animated Tachs for the new posts / no new posts. With no new posts, the tach would be a light faded grey. With new posts the tach would have a red hand and it would actually move up and down and the shift light would blink green. New Posts: Posted by: Rick Sample A little something I came up with: Posted by: bullitt5177 I like it!! Posted by: StangChick Looks good Posted by: Rick Sample Quote:
Posted by: badass98svt I like it too. Posted by: Jarhead46 I like Posted by: Rick Sample I'm not to sure about the animated Tachs or the MCRParts.com logo... I'm going to play around with photoshop a little more to try out some more stuff, too! Posted by: StangChick Quote:
But the only thing I would like to do different, is the header. I think we need a better picture of Tony's car, to make the site look more professional. Posted by: Rick Sample Quote:
Posted by: bullitt5177 I kinda liked the old header design, where there was a different car every time it loaded. It looks good either way though, in my opinion. Posted by: Rick Sample That was a nice header... I like both though. Posted by: StangChick Quote:
Posted by: Rick Sample That would be nice... do you have anything in mind? I loved the one you made for my other site. Posted by: Rick Sample Even simple headers look amazing... I love this one (we would still have to have that green mustang, our logo, and number/other stuff in their somewhere, too: http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/...ch_mustang.asp Posted by: StangChick Quote:
If not might as well stick with the one you got. Posted by: Rick Sample Yeah I don't have any more of his photos... that's the only pic I've seen of his car. Posted by: ExBamaGal Oh TONY!!! We need pics bro!! Posted by: Rick Sample Yes Tony... where are you? lol Posted by: Rick Sample I know their are some more of his pics around the forums somwhere... I just can't find them lol Posted by: Rick Sample What about a little something like this? Just kept fooling around in photoshop: Posted by: ExBamaGal I like that a lot better Rick!! Posted by: bullitt5177 Yeah, definitely looks a lot more professional. Posted by: langod I like the tach idea for new messages/threads, Rick. How will it change to show threads you've posted in? Since we're talking about the header, I'm going to be totally honest -- I don't like the "new" logo. It worked for Muscle Mustangs, but it doesn't work at all for MCR Parts. The "CR" is the what catches your eye, and the "M" gets lost. At the same time, it looks like the CR was just thrown into the empty space. Marketing-wise, I'd try to find some way to "icon-ize" the logo with a simple line drawing or a simple but memorable icon. Look at two logos that we're familiar with. Ford and Chevy. Simple but unique shapes. If I say "blue oval" or "bowtie" you immediately know what company it is. Or for examples more closely related to what MCRParts is about: Summit Racing, or AllFordMustangs, or even Steeda. They all have simple shapes or stylized text that is instantly recognizable. Anyway - for what it's worth, that's my $0.02. . Posted by: ExBamaGal Great points langod. I somewhat agree about the logo. Posted by: Rick Sample I'm still not sure if we're going with the new tachs or staying with the old MCRParts.com logo. If we do... they wont affect the threads you've posted in. Those tachs will only be on the main forums page just like the MCRparts.com logos are I think your somewhat right about the logo... but I don't think Tony has any plans of changing it in the future. What I can do is in our new header somewhere under the logo or to the side actually type the URL in like a lot of sites do. Quote:
Posted by: Rick Sample I'll work on this here tomorrow or the next day to see what I can come up with. I'm also going to made a fluid layout so those that don't really like the fixed look can have a choice. Maybe even make it so those who are moderators or have above 1,000 posts can have their own style with their own car in the header.
Posted by: Rick Sample Another Preview: Added Tony's car to the left and added some more texture to the middle blue part Posted by: langod I like it! Posted by: Rick Sample Hopefully I can get this up and functional tonight! Posted by: Rick Sample New style is up, but not completed! Posting a new thread for feedback! Posted by: bullitt5177 Me likey!! Posted by: ExBamaGal Looks great!! But we still need a better picture of Tony's car. Posted by: MCRPARTS Quote:
Posted by: ExBamaGal I like that concept...just think the pic is a little dark for something as major as a header. But...that's just my opinion Maybe someone else will chime in and set me straight
Posted by: Rick Sample I think I'm going to stick with the current MCR parts logo instead of the tach's... I think the current one looks more professional than an animated one
Posted by: Nikki Renae The new design looks great! Very nice job =) Posted by: awwyea Hey...I like that picture of Tony's car....I should know...I took it !!!!!! With a little modification in Photo Shop, it could be brighter if you really wanted it to be Tony. Let me know and I can play around with it for you. Posted by: ExBamaGal I didn't say I didn't like, or that it didn't look good (you did a great job Carol ). I just think it needs to stand out a little more, that's all. Maybe it's just me. These nights are killing my eyes lol
Posted by: bullitt5177 It is pretty dark, but I like it. It's sets off from the rest of the header. Posted by: Rick Sample I'll try to get the rest of the small changes in next week
Posted by: langod Rick, I like the new header -- the pic of Tony's car works really well! (you might want to bump up the brightness -- it looks a little dark, unless it's just my monitor...) Jim Posted by: Rick Sample Thanks Langod
Posted by: badass98svt Job well done, Rick Posted by: Rick Sample Thanks
Posted by: Rick Sample Hows that look everyone? I lightend it up a bit. I know where it says MCRParts.com right beside Tony's is a little light. I'll fix that this weekend and also add our fax number back in
Posted by: ExBamaGal Looks better to me
Posted by: Rick Sample Awesome!
Posted by: Rick Sample Added a nice little redirect bar when you login/out, etc and I also added a new PM popup window to make the look and feel of the forums nicer
Posted by: Rick Sample Well guys I think that's it on the style changes for now. I'm back to work on the main site adding in more products to give our consumers more to choose from
Posted by: joecool6101 I like the look of these forums very much. How long did it take you to create this? and what is the best way to make a custom template such as this for vBulletin? Posted by: Rick Sample Quote:
Thanks for the kind words! It took me about 7-8 hours to create this template including all graphics and the code. I'm not sure really how to explain to make a custom template such as this... I have designed over 100 other forums for variouse people as side jobs is how I learned. Each forum I design... my skills grow larger and larger and each forum looks better and better. Posted by: Rick Sample I added a new blue abstract image to our header today, the old one was a little blurred IMO. Posted by: Rick Sample Also just changed a few forum colors and moved a few forums around
Posted by: ExBamaGal Looks great Rick!! Posted by: Rick Sample Glad you like the forum changes
