Do they work better than plain rotors? Do they last as long? Do they accelerate pad wear? Posted by: badass98svt I use d/s rotors. I haven't noticed any accelerated pad wear, nor did I notice better braking. But I don't exactly road race the car, so I dunno if I WOULD notice better braking. They have held up great thus far. The drilled areas are prone to cracking, but only under severe braking duties. For a daily driver, they are great, and they look terriffic! What brand were you looking at? If you run these rotors, understand they are for APPEARANCE only. Crossdrilling and slots offer no benefit over plain rotors. In reality, the plain rotors offer better cooling and braking due to more mass and surface area available to disapate the heat created in braking. Crossdrilled rotors are for exotic race pads that expel gases under high heat. This is why many exotic race cars have them....because they use the expensive racing-type pads. Slots help wipe brake dust off the rotor, but that's all they really do. If you want them for looks, by all means go for it. You won't notice the difference on the street ever. If you want better braking, consider one of the 13" Cobra brake kits available for under $400. The plain 13" rotor will look 100X better than a crossdrilled stock GT rotor Posted by: Lances03GT Watch out for the one's you buy.I have the FRRP front drilled rotors and they rust like you would'nt believe. Posted by: smake60 Thanks for the input. What I was looking for was better braking. The stock brakes on fox body Mustangs seems poor and I wanted to upgrade. Who has a 13" kit for less than $400. Will the 13" kit work with 15" wheels? Posted by: KartRacer39 Quote:

AH, you have a FOx. Fox brakes suck either way. If you want an upgrade, your best bet is an SN95 conversion. If you want to run 15's you can run the 99-04 GT dual-piston PBR's. Have a read www.sn95brakes.com Posted by: TorchRedSVT i have my stock brakes from my old 02 GT lying around if you want em...150 bucks takes em...38k miles on em and they are already painted red. They have the stock brake lines still connected. Send me a PM if yer interested i upgraded mine to some cross drilled/slotted rotors before i sold the car. I had 18'' wheels so it was mostly for appearance, but i did notice a difference in braking...however they were pretty nosiy Posted by: Prafopi Quote:
Posted by: speedytang If you want to increase your stopping power on a FOX get EBC brake pads.(Green). Be careful after the install because you will whip your neck the first couple of times you put on the brakes. Expect at 60mph a four car shorter stopping distance. Posted by: skunk I have run brembo crossed drilled /slotted rotors on my contour for over 5yrs w/o issues including some autocross events. the cross drilling is more for looks while the gas slots are doing the work of removing the heat and pad gases. I have never had any cracking of my rotors, what you need to do is stay away from cheapies like in ebay. go with brembo, bear(sp?) etc. aslo don't go to agressive of a pad if 90% of your driving is street made that mistake in the begining, to much brake dust and noise. I have 5 spoke open wheels so they look better with this wheel and did improve braking(which improved even more when I added braided brake hoses). you can't turn these rotors once they start to warp trash them, you can rebed another set of pads on them though if they are straight. rememeber read the instruction and bed the pads in before you start doing hard braking. ford my 2003 ford explorer I towed my trailer and warped my stocked cheap oem and went with power slot rotors, they are just gas slotted. they gave much improved braking, better modulation, no fade and didn't warp in the 2yrs I ran them, they havn't came out with a listing for my 06 yet so I have to take it easy but man did I notice a differance right away!!! I'm going with these for my 91 mustang gt since I have the 93 cobra wheels which are closed and you really can't see in them and get the benifiet of gas slotting.

Posted by: Mustang5L5 All the slots really do is help clear brake dust from the face of the rotor. This improved braking very minimally. There is little to no cooling effect from the slots or crossdrilled holes The main cooling from the rotor comes from the vanes running INSIDE the rotor. If any of you know how centrifigal pumps work, air is drawn through a spinning rotor by slinging air out using centrifigal force. The vacuum causes more air to be drawn through the center. This provides 99% of a rotors cooling. Also, you could buy $20 autozone rotors and slap them on a car with worn brakes and notice a HUGE difference compared to worn brakes. Brakes really need to be compared after some miles are put on them to see how they hold up after bedding and heat cycling. Posted by: skunk they do offer some cooling. the gas slots are the biggest gain, removing gases being built up from the pad between the rotor/pad during braking this, will reduce some heat and reduce fade. I agree the biggest cooling is from the vanes, the gas slotted rotors are a dual cooling rotor vs a solid face rotor which cannot relieve a rotor of pad gases during braking. Posted by: 95Cobraman1024 I run the cross drilled/slotted rotors on all four corner with the 03/04 cobra calipers. i think i had the front ones facing the wrong direction because I had some pretty scary fade at 120mph----flipped them and haven't felt the fade again. i do have the hawk HPS pads in front and they are noisy with these rotors. they look awesome though with my 18" saleen replicas though. I have the same combo

Posted by: badass98svt Welcome to the site, broseph Posted by: 95Cobraman1024 thanks dude Posted by: KartRacer39 I don't want to hijack your thread but I do have a question. Which is the correct direction to run the slotted rotors? Like this or reverseI have seen cars with both so I am just curious. T.I.A., Richard Posted by: Mustang5L5 Quote:
Rotor direction is determined by the vents INSIDE the rotor. Air is pumped from the center outwards, so some rotors offer slanted vents which my be put on in a way that when the rotor spins, the vents trail away from the direction of travel. If the vents are straight, the rotor can be put on either side and it doesn't matter really. Posted by: KartRacer39 Thanks, I only knew that the slots do two things. 1: they true your pads 2: they let gases escape between pad and rotor. I went to a HPDE and the instructor told me to stick with a stock rotor and some Hawk HPS pads and I really noticed an improvement in braking just with that Mod. He explained that the crossdrilled rotors tend to crack between holes over time and become dangerous.
